Circa $200,000 + Super An exciting opportunity has become available for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a leading national Tier 1 mechanical contractor within their growing Melbourne team.

The business has a significant presence across Australia and delivers some of the country's largest and most technically complex mechanical projects across data centres, healthcare, commercial and major infrastructure.

Due to continued growth within their data centre division, they are looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to take the technical lead on a major project from initial design through to completion.

The Role

This is more than a traditional design position.

You will take ownership of the mechanical design across the full project lifecycle, working closely with the client, consultants, internal engineering teams and project delivery teams to ensure the design is coordinated, buildable and successfully delivered on site.

You will become a key technical point of contact for the project and have the opportunity to see your designs through from the early stages all the way to commissioning and handover.

Key Responsibilities

- Take technical ownership of mechanical design across a major project
- Lead the design process from early stages through construction and completion
- Review and develop HVAC and mechanical services designs
- Coordinate with consultants, clients, builders and internal project teams
- Lead technical and design coordination meetings
- Identify design risks, buildability issues and value engineering opportunities




- Support procurement, construction and commissioning teams throughout delivery
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers
- Ensure designs meet relevant Australian Standards, project specifications and client requirements

About You

- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Strong mechanical/HVAC design background
- Experience working within mechanical contracting or building services
- Ability to take ownership of projects and lead the technical design process
- Robust understanding of HVAC systems and mechanical services
- Confident working with clients, consultants and project delivery teams
- Data centre or mission-critical project experience is highly advantageous, but not essential

Candidates from other technically complex project environments such as healthcare, laboratories, commercial or major infrastructure are also encouraged to apply.
