This is a permanent part-time (0.2FTE) position commencing Term 4, 2026

Balcatta Primary School (PS) is situated 10km north-west of Perth in the suburb of Balcatta. We cater for students in Kindergarten to Year 6 and we are very proud of our heritage and multicultural population, representing many different ethnic groups.

The Role

We are seeking to appoint a friendly and committed Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO) to join our team.

The AIEO plays a crucial role in fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for our Aboriginal students. As a liaison between the school and community, the AIEO works closely with teachers, students and families to develop culturally relevant educational programs that empower our Aboriginal students to reach their full potential.

With a deep understanding of Aboriginal culture and history, the AIEO brings a unique perspective to the school community, promoting respect, understanding and harmony. Through mentoring and pastoral care, the AIEO also provides support and guidance to Aboriginal students to encourage participation and achievement in the classroom.

While the role is focused on inclusion for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, the work involves a variety of other general tasks, such as administrative duties,



guiding students in developing general life skills, managing classroom resources, or assisting with behaviour management plans for students at risk.

The desired applicant should ideally have good interpersonal and communication skills to liaise between the community and school to develop an educational program relevant to both educational and cultural needs.
