About the role

Join the 6 West Dialysis Unit at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and provide specialised nursing care to patients requiring renal replacement therapies in an acute hospital setting.

The unit supports a range of complex renal services, including acute haemodialysis for inpatients with acute kidney failure, plasma exchange for pre- and post-kidney transplant patients, and maintenance haemodialysis for chronic outpatients.

As an integral member of the Dialysis Unit, you’ll work closely with the nephrology medical team, nephrology ward service, satellite dialysis team and broader multidisciplinary team to assess, plan and deliver safe, high-quality patient care throughout dialysis treatment.

The position includes rostered morning and afternoon shifts, weekends and public holidays, with participation in after-hours on-call also required.

Key Accountabilities

- Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and deliver high-quality haemodialysis care in an acute hospital setting.
- Initiate, monitor and safely complete haemodialysis treatments in line with clinical protocols.
- Assess, manage and maintain dialysis vascular access, including AVF, AVG and CVC.




- Identify and troubleshoot vascular access issues and respond to changes in patient condition.
- Provide safe, effective and patient-centred care throughout the dialysis treatment.

About You

You are an experienced Registered Nurse with solid haemodialysis expertise and a commitment to delivering safe, evidence-based, patient-centred care. You will also bring:

- Current Division 1 Registered Nurse registration with AHPRA
- Postgraduate qualification in Renal Nursing
- Minimum 2 years’ haemodialysis nursing experience
- Strong patient assessment and clinical decision-making skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to apply best-practice models to nursing practice
- A strong focus on patient outcomes and effective teamwork
- An innovative, resourceful and adaptable approach to care
