Are you an experienced SMSF professional looking to move beyond pure fund preparation and data processing? Our client is a highly regarded boutique accounting and advisory firm seeking an SMSF Accountant to join their growing team. This opportunity offers direct Partner exposure, ownership of a portfolio of SMSF clients and the chance to focus on higher value work including client management, technical review and compliance oversight.
The Opportunity
This is not a traditional SMSF processing role. You'll be responsible for managing your own SMSF portfolio while overseeing work completed by a dedicated outsourced accounting team. Your focus will be on reviewing completed work, managing client relationships, resolving technical issues and ensuring all compliance obligations are met.
The successful candidate will work closely with a Partner and become a trusted advisor to a sophisticated client base.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage an allocated portfolio of SMSF clients
- Act as the primary contact for clients throughout the compliance process
- Review SMSF financial statements and annual tax returns
- Review contributions, pensions, member balances and investment transactions
- Coordinate and manage work completed by offshore accounting resources
- Liaise with auditors and manage annual audit requirements
- Resolve technical and compliance-related queries
- Assist with fund establishments, pension commencements and rollovers
- Ensure all statutory and internal deadlines are achieved
- Maintain strong workflow management and file quality standards
About You
- Experience within an Australian Public Practice accounting firm
- Strong SMSF accounting and compliance knowledge
- Experience reviewing SMSF accounts and tax returns
- Confidence communicating directly with clients
- Highly organised with strong workflow management skills
- Ability to manage multiple funds and competing deadlines
- Comfortable taking ownership of jobs from commencement through to completion
Highly Regarded
- 3+ years SMSF accounting experience
- CA or CPA qualified or studying
- Class Super experience
- Experience liaising with SMSF auditors
- Exposure to complex SMSF matters including pensions, property and contribution strategies
