The Question

n

How do you become a Chief Executive Officer in Aged Care without already having a CEO title on your CV?

n

I get asked this frequently during conversations with Aged Care Executives, Multi-Site Regional Managers, and financially savvy Aged Care Consultants who can't find a crack in the ceiling.

n

The usual answer is to get in the queue and wait for your current CEO to resign, hoping that the "promote from within" culture extends all the way up. But looking at the type of CEOs who have come into the sector lately, not all Boards have "Aged Care experience" listed as an essential criteria.

n

Well, this Board does have Aged Care experience as essential. The CEO part would be outstanding but they're the type of organisation to look past job titles and deeper into what you can do. So if there was ever a chance to elevate your career to the top of the ladder, this is it.

n

The caveat is that it is only for six months. You will need to weigh up whether it is worth leaving your current, comfortable position to relocate to Regional NSW for a role that has a hard end date. The uncertainty after the contract ends is the downside.

- Executive-Level Aged Care Experience: A proven track record in senior leadership, regional management, or C-suite roles within the Australian sector.
n
- Sharp Commercial Acumen: The financial literacy to identify efficiencies and drive sustainability.
n
- Transformational Leadership: Hands-on experience navigating change management, structural right-sizing, and operational optimization.
n
- Relocation Readiness: The flexibility and willingness to relocate to coastal Regional NSW for a full-time, 6-month fixed-term contract.
