Role overview
To oversee the day-to-day management, safety, utilisation, and performance of the company’s vehicle fleet while ensuring compliance with all regulatory, operational, and maintenance standards. The role ensures fleet efficiency, cost control, and seamless transport operations.
Key responsibilities
- Plan, organise, and coordinate fleet operations to meet daily and long-term business needs.
- Oversee vehicle allocation, route planning, and scheduling to maximise utilisation and minimise downtime.
- Maintain compliance with all transport regulations, Chain of Responsibility (CoR), NHVR rules, and company policies.
- Monitor vehicle performance, fuel usage, servicing schedules, and maintenance standards.
- Liaise with workshops, suppliers, and external contractors to ensure timely repairs and maintenance.
- Implement fleet management systems and maintain accurate digital records (service history, defects, inspections).
- Conduct regular fleet inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits.
- Manage driver compliance,
including licenses, inductions, fatigue management, and training requirements.
- Track operational costs, analyse expenditure, and identify cost-reduction opportunities.
- Respond to incidents, breakdowns, and emergencies with appropriate escalation and reporting.
- Ensure all vehicles meet legal requirements, including insurance, registrations, and compliance documentation.
- Oversee asset lifecycle planning, including procurement, replacement, and disposal of vehicles.
Qualifications and skills
1. Minimum 1 year of experience in fleet management, transport operations, or a related logistics
role.
2. Relevant qualification in management.
3. Strong understanding of transport compliance, CoR, NHVR regulations, and safety systems.
4. Solid organisational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to manage
competing priorities.
5. Competence in fleet management software, digital compliance tools, and Microsoft Office
applications.
