About the role

This role is responsible for the overall performance of Vellex Queensland operations, ensuring safe, compliant, efficient and commercially sustainable transport and warehousing operations. The role leads operations, people, fleet and subcontractor performance, while maintaining accountability for financial results, workplace health and safety, productivity, service delivery and compliance within the company standards and applicable legislation.

Key responsibilities

- Lead the day-to-day performance of the Queensland depot, ensuring freight is received, sorted, dispatched and delivered safely, accurately and within required timeframes.

- Drive operational efficiency across freight movement, warehousing, route planning, labour utilisation, fleet allocation and depot performance.

- Ensure compliance with WHS requirements, Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL), Chain of Responsibility (CoR), fatigue, mass, load restraint, maintenance and Dangerous Goods requirements.

- Maintain a visible leadership presence across the site and ensure hazards, incidents, non-conformances and corrective actions are promptly identified, reported and addressed.

- Ensure company vehicles, subcontractor vehicles, forklifts and equipment are appropriately utilised, maintained, roadworthy and operated in accordance with company and legislative requirements.

- Oversee driver, subcontractor and agent performance, including onboarding, licences, insurances, compliance, service levels,



safety and cost effectiveness in consultation with our compliance team.

- Manage labour requirements, productivity, overtime and workforce capability to meet operational, financial and customer requirements in consultation with Human Resources and Payroll.

- Lead, coach and manage employees, including performance management, recruitment and employee matters in consultation with Human Resources.

- Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers and act as the senior escalation point for significant service or operational issues.

- Oversee the state budget and Profit & Loss performance, identify cost-saving opportunities and improve operational margins without compromising safety or service.

About you

- Demonstrated success in a similar role

- Transport, logistics, warehousing industry experience

- Strong working knowledge of transport compliance, including HVNL and Chain of Responsibility obligations

- Demonstrated commercial acumen, including budget, cost control and Profit & Loss management

- Strong leadership, people management and performance management capability

- Solid customer, stakeholder, negotiation and problem-solving skills

- Ability to analyse operational and financial information and make timely, commercially sound decisions

- Strong organisation, communication and reporting skills

- Current Driver Licence and ability to travel to other Vellex sites as required

- Self-sufficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
