Australian Gold Capital is a privately owned Australian business specialising in investment bullion, precious metals and jewellery, with a growing network of retail locations across Australia. We are looking for an experienced Store Manager to take ownership of our Melbourne CBD flagship store.

This is a hands-on management role for someone who enjoys running a busy retail operation, leading a team, managing inventory, solving problems and making sure the store operates accurately and efficiently every day.

You don't need experience in precious metals. We provide comprehensive training in bullion, precious metals, jewellery purchasing and Self-Managed Super Fund (SMSF) transactions, as well as our inventory management, reconciliation and operational systems and procedures.

About the Role

You'll be responsible for the day-to-day performance and operation of our Melbourne CBD store, working closely with the CEO and wider business. This is not a desk-based management position. We want a manager who is visible on the floor, works alongside the team, notices what needs to be done and takes responsibility for getting it done.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Leading, coaching and managing the Melbourne retail team.
- Managing staff performance, rostering and day-to-day store coverage.
- Ensuring company procedures and operational processes are consistently followed.
- Maintaining high standards of customer service, presentation and professionalism.
- Taking ownership of daily store reconciliations, ensuring cash, bank transactions and physical inventory reconcile accurately.
- Personally investigating and resolving reconciliation discrepancies, ensuring issues are followed through until the cause is identified and resolved.
- Managing inventory levels, stock allocation, stock movements and stock accuracy.
- Completing and overseeing stocktakes and maintaining accurate inventory records.
- Using Excel and spreadsheets to analyse inventory, pricing, reconciliations and other operational information.




- Ensuring end-of-day procedures are completed accurately and outstanding issues are followed through.
- Identifying problems and implementing practical improvements rather than waiting to be directed.
- Ensuring quieter periods are used productively for training, organisation, stock management and other store priorities.
- Recruiting, training and onboarding current team members.
- Working alongside the team and serving customers during busy periods.
- Handling customer enquiries, escalations and high-value transactions.
- Building relationships with regular and VIP customers.
- Learning to assess and purchase gold, silver and jewellery from customers.
- Assisting customers purchasing investment bullion, including through SMSFs.
- Working closely with administration, accounts and compliance.
- Ensuring the store and team maintain compliance with AML/CTF requirements and internal compliance procedures.
- Maintaining a safe, organised and professional store environment.
- Reporting directly to the CEO.

About You

We're looking for a capable retail manager who takes ownership and accountability for their store. You're organised, numerate and commercially minded. You don't need to be constantly told what to do. You notice problems, prioritise what matters and follow things through.

Importantly, when something doesn't reconcile or doesn't make sense, your first instinct is to work out why and resolve it.

You'll ideally have

- Proven experience successfully managing a retail store.
- Strong leadership and people-management skills.
- Hands-on inventory and stock-control experience.
- Good Excel and spreadsheet skills.
- Strong mathematical and numerical ability.
- Confidence working with pricing, percentages, weights and financial calculations.
- Experience with cash handling, reconciliations and investigating discrepancies.
- Robust organisational and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- The ability to prioritise and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- A practical, hands-on management style.




- The confidence to hold staff accountable while maintaining a positive team environment.
- Strong communication and customer-service skills.
- Professional presentation.
- Sound commercial judgement.
- A willingness to learn a specialised industry.
- A current Australian driver's licence.

Experience in jewellery, watches, banking, pawnbroking, automotive, electronics, telecommunications, premium retail or another environment involving high-value products or transactions would be highly regarded, but is not essential.

For a high-performing Store Manager, there will be opportunities over time to assist with additional locations, staff training, inventory management and new store openings, with the potential to progress into multi-site management.

Progression will be based on demonstrated performance, capability and increased responsibility.
