About the role
The Consultant/Senior Consultant in Women’s Anaesthesia is to provide anaesthetic, acute pain and resuscitative services for the patients of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G;)
Departments. The appointee is responsible for the provision of high-quality pre-anaesthetic patient preparation, participation in the Pre-anaesthetic Clinics, pain relief services for labouring women, anaesthesia for elective and emergency obstetrics and gynaecology surgery and post-anaesthetic care services.
Key duties of the role
- Provide high-standard, evidence-based, patient-centred anaesthetic care while supporting multidisciplinary teamwork, clinical governance and quality patient outcomes
- Participate in and promote multidisciplinary education, training and supervision of anaesthetic trainees, medical staff, midwives and theatre nurses in O&G; anaesthesia and resuscitation
- Participate in research, clinical reviews and case reports to contribute to advances in knowledge and practice within the specialty
- Participate in quality management, quality assurance and risk management activities and ongoing improvement of the service and organisation
Skills and Experience
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification and Specialist registration with AHPRA
- Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA)
- Current eligibility for registration as a Specialist with AHPRA and Consultant/Senior Consultant qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in obstetric and gynaecological anaesthesia, preferably in a large public hospital
- Demonstrated experience in teaching, research and multidisciplinary healthcare
