Kitchen & Production Assistant

Earthen Pantry | Wangara, WA

Earthen Pantry is a small food business working from our licensed commercial kitchen in Wangara.

From the same kitchen, we prepare our seasoning collection, catering orders and our Friday and Saturday Kitchen Drops.

As the kitchen gets busier, we’re looking for another reliable person to join the team and help with the everyday preparation and production that keeps everything moving.

This is a practical, hands-on role across the whole kitchen.

Some days you may be preparing ingredients and components for catering. On another day you could be filling, sealing and labelling seasoning bottles, packing orders or helping prepare the week’s Kitchen Drops menu.

You won’t be tied to one section. You’ll work alongside our Head Chef and Kitchen Manager, helping wherever the day’s production needs you most.

What you’ll be doing

- Preparing ingredients and mise en place for Catering and Kitchen Drops

- Assisting with sauces, dressings, marinades and other kitchen components

- Portioning, assembling and packing catering orders

- Filling, sealing, labelling and packing our seasoning bottles

- Applying batch and best-before information accurately

- Picking and packing wholesale and online Pantry orders

- Replenishing finished seasoning stock and helping maintain agreed holding-stock levels

- Receiving, rotating and putting away ingredients and packaging

- Following recipes, preparation sheets, batch records and production instructions

- Maintaining food-safety and hygiene standards

- Cleaning and resetting work areas as production is completed

- Helping with other kitchen work when required

As you become familiar with our systems, we’d like this person to take increasing responsibility for routine Pantry production and keeping finished seasoning stocks at the levels the kitchen needs.

About you

We’re less concerned about a particular job title on your CV and more interested in how you work.

You may have experience in a commercial kitchen, catering kitchen, bakery, food-production business or another hands-on food environment.

You’ll suit the role if you:

- Work cleanly, carefully and at a good pace

- Are dependable and turn up ready to work

- Can follow recipes and production instructions accurately

- Pay attention to weights, labels, batches and the small details

- Are comfortable with both food preparation and repetitive production work

- Can move between different jobs as priorities change during the day

- Take responsibility for keeping your work area organised

- Understand the importance of food safety and valuable kitchen habits

- Work well as part of a small team

Are comfortable being on your feet and with the normal lifting and physical work of a commercial kitchen

A formal chef qualification is not essential.

Commercial kitchen or food-production experience will be highly regarded, but attitude,

reliability and the ability to work consistently matter just as much.

Hours and pay

This is initially a casual position of approximately 25–30 hours per week, generally spread across three to four days.

The roster will be built around Pantry production, Catering and Kitchen Drops, so some Friday and Saturday availability will be important.

Starting rate: $35.00 per hour, inclusive of 25% casual loading, plus superannuation. Weekend, public holiday and overtime penalty rates apply in accordance with the applicable award.

We’ll review the role and remuneration after the first three months, based on the responsibilities you have taken on and how the role develops.

Working at Earthen Pantry

We are still a small team, so everyone plays a genuine part in what leaves the kitchen.

We care about positive food, an organised kitchen and doing things properly. We keep the range focused, follow our systems and expect the same standard whether we are preparing one catering order or packing a production run of seasoning bottles.

For the right person, this is an opportunity to become part of the kitchen early and take on more responsibility as the business grows.

To apply

Please send us your CV along with a short introduction telling us:

- What sort of kitchen or food-production work you’ve done

- What days you’re generally available

- Approximately how many hours you’re looking for each week

- When you would be available to start

We’re particularly interested in finding someone dependable who enjoys practical kitchen work and wants to become part of a small team for the longer term
