Sante Recruitment is seeking an exceptional clinical leader to join Albury Wodonga Health (AWH) as Senior Medical Director - Acute, Medicine & Cancer Services.
This is a rare opportunity to take on a senior medical leadership position within the largest regional health service between Sydney and Melbourne, influencing healthcare delivery across a substantial cross-border population spanning North-East Victoria and Southern New South Wales.
The position sits within the AWH Senior Leadership Team and provides a critical executive interface between clinical leadership and the organisation's broader executive structure.
This is an exciting time to join AWH, with significant service expansion and transformation underway across its cross-campus public healthcare network.
A Unique Opportunity to Shape the Role
The appointment is occurring during a period of significant organisational growth and service development.
The position is currently subject to an ongoing change consultation process in accordance with the relevant Victorian public health sector enterprise agreement and may be subject to variation following completion of that consultation.
Importantly, the successful candidate will actively participate in this consultation process.
This provides a genuine opportunity to help shape and refine the scope, structure and responsibilities of the role and influence how this emerging senior executive-interface position operates within the health service.
For an experienced medical leader, this represents an unusual opportunity to co-design a senior leadership role while simultaneously influencing the future direction of regional healthcare delivery.
The Role
As Senior Medical Director - Acute,
Medicine & Cancer Services, you will act as the key executive interface for Clinical Directors within the Directorate.
Working closely with senior executives, you will help bridge the organisation's executive leadership and clinical services, ensuring strong communication, collaboration and consensus-driven decision-making.
You will work closely with:
General Manager
Chief Medical Officer
Chief Operating Officer
Clinical Directors
Senior Medical Staff
Multidisciplinary clinical teams
Corporate and operational leaders
Key responsibilities will include:
Providing strategic clinical leadership across Acute, Medicine and Cancer Services
Supporting Clinical Directors and senior medical leaders
Acting as an executive interface between clinical services and senior management
Contributing to strategic service planning and transformation
Supporting clinical leadership development
Driving clinical quality and patient safety
Building strong stakeholder relationships
Supporting workforce planning and service development
Contributing to teaching, research and regional healthcare development
Ensuring clinical priorities are effectively represented at executive level
The successful candidate will be expected to bring a collaborative, strategic and influential leadership style, with the ability to build consensus across complex stakeholder environments.

Key Selection Criteria
The successful applicant will demonstrate:
Qualifications & Registration
Unconditional specialist registration as a Medical Practitioner with AHPRA
Current Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) and/or
Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (RACMA)
Leadership Experience
Minimum 3 years' demonstrated management and clinical leadership experience in a senior leadership role
Proven ability to lead within a complex healthcare environment
Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and service development
