About the role
The role is 5 days per week. Directors of Rowville Sports Academy sports undertake development and oversight of a documented specialist, exemplary sporting program, are involved in selection and oversight of the Assistant Coaches in their program and report directly to the Rowville Sports Academy Operations Manager. The Director of Coaching role requires outstanding sporting knowledge and an elite sports coaching and/or playing background in their sport. It is also an expectation that the Director of Coaching will have a powerful capacity to effectively influence students not only in their sporting development and pathways but in their academic program outcomes at training sessions, and in written and verbal communication with parents and students.
Selection Criteria - please address each one in your application
Demonstrated elite coaching and/or playing experience. For coaching this means coaching appointments at international or national level in either development and/or competition or registration at the highest level of accreditation in their sport. For playing this refers to participation in a national competition or higher.
Capacity to develop and document an elite level school sporting program consistent with those described in the typical duties for the position below.
Demonstrated capacity to help select, oversee and hold accountable the assistant coaches in your team, such that the program delivered is seen as a benchmark school sports program in Australian schools.
Commitment to continued skilled learning and growth especially so as to consistently understand and champion the philosophy of RSA and to help create demand from families for the program.
Capacity to work co-operatively and supportively with the RSA Operations Manager, the other Directors of Coaching, and their teams to build a culture of respect and high endeavour within the RSA program.
Demonstrated capacity to communicate highly effectively with members of the school community.

Key Responsibilities
Coaching Directors:
Oversee the development of a sporting program that is reflective of the status of Rowville Sports Academy as an elite provider of school-based sporting programs. RSA has been established to promote sporting and academic growth to participating students. Part of achieving that will revolve around continuous communication with students and families on progress in their program, especially in respect to opportunities for growth.
Model exemplary program delivery during sports coaching and all program activities e.g. competitions, additional elite sessions, athletic development and recovery, exposing students to the highest of standards
Employ, deploy and instruct members of the coaching team, enabling each coach to bring their strengths to the development and delivery of our elite program. The Coaching Director of each sport will uphold, model and command that their team upholds school values. They will ensure that all school requirements are followed including legal and safety requirements.
Liaise with partner organisations on the delivery of their component of the program e.g. athletic development and strength and conditioning and ensure that their delivery also exposes students to the highest standards
Collaborate proactively with other Directors of Coaching to share ideas that maximise the sporting and learning culture of Rowville Sports Academy
Monitor the wellbeing of students within their sport and recognise and support them during challenging times such time poor stages, referring them to support staff where appropriate or providing time for academic catch up or by applying other appropriate support structures
Monitor the engagement of students in their sports coaching ensuring appropriate individual dialogue occurs between the coaching team and every student at appropriate intervals, such that enduring relationships are built and utilised for student growth in their sporting and academic activities. Support and drive excellence in student learning choices e.g. Behaviour Point Average both in the classroom and at coaching
Endeavour to ensure the appropriate balance is maintained for students in their sporting and academic commitments
Continue to grow the reputation of Rowville Sports Academy within the community by promoting the program at appropriate forums and by providing ideas for program improvement to the RSA Operations Manager, sports team and RSA meetings. Support the program budget by participating in revenue raising events such as RSA Elite Sports Camps
Understand the needs of all students including sporting and personal, participation and growth, well-being and academic outcomes. Specifically, ensuring that every student opts in and if students begin to opt out they are quickly supported back into active participation.
Take responsibility for competition team selection criteria, ensuring that all students have the chance across a spectrum of events to grow and develop. Ensure that you and others apply the selection criteria to all event selection and communicate strongly to students and parents about selection at all relevant times.
Competitions will involve event management and the Director or their delegate will communicate strongly with the Sport and Houses Co-ordinator or Events Administrator, as appropriate and in a timely manner, mindful of their workloads.
