Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist – Canberra Location: Canberra, Australian Capital Territory Remuneration package: Up to $520,000 Relocation and professional expenses: Reimbursement of up to $55,000 Medipeople is seeking an experienced Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist to join a highly regarded public mental health service in Canberra.
This is an outstanding opportunity to take on a senior clinical role across a diverse forensic mental health service while enjoying an excellent remuneration package, generous leave entitlements and comprehensive relocation support.
Remuneration and benefits The package includes: Total remuneration of up to $520,000 Reimbursement of relocation, specialist college, medical registration and visa application expenses—up to $55,000 Psychiatry allowance of $75,********% on-call allowance 12.5% superannuation Four weeks of career development leave Five weeks of annual leave Potential conjoint academic appointment with a leading Canberra university Dedicated support with specialist assessment, medical registration, immigration and relocation The role You will provide specialist psychiatric care across the full range of forensic mental health settings in the Australian Capital Territory, including: The ACT's adult all-gender correctional centre A youth detention centre supporting young people aged ***** A secure forensic mental health unit with 25 high-security beds, comprising 10 acute and 15 subacute beds Mental health court assessment and liaison services Forensic consultation and intervention services Working as a senior member of multidisciplinary teams, you will: Provide high-quality,



recovery-focused psychiatric assessment and treatment Lead the development and implementation of individual recovery plans Supervise and support psychiatry trainees and medical students Work closely with correctional services, courts, GPs, community agencies and other stakeholders Contribute to clinical governance, service development and quality-improvement initiatives Participate in teaching, training and research activities The service has established research and academic relationships with the Australian National University, the University of Canberra and Australian Catholic University.
Suitable applicants may also be considered for a conjoint academic appointment.

museums and major events Outstanding facilities for community and professional sport Extensive parks, nature reserves, cycling trails and outdoor recreation Convenient domestic air connections Easy access to Sydney—approximately three hours by road or one hour by air Essential requirements Applicants should have: Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists ( FRANZCP ) with advanced training in forensic psychiatry; or International specialist qualifications and training that may be suitable for assessment through an applicable RANZCP specialist pathway Substantial experience working within forensic psychiatry services Strong clinical leadership and communication skills Extensive experience working in multidisciplinary environments A commitment to supervision, education and professional development Internationally trained psychiatrists with suitable UK or comparable specialist training are encouraged to apply.
