The business designs and fabricates windows, doors, shopfronts, partitions, balustrades, shower screens, splashbacks, automated louvre systems and custom architectural products, including ALUCOBOND® cladding, using Australian materials and workmanship that conforms to relevant Australian Standards.
With more than a decade of factory-based manufacturing experience, the team values quality control, constructability, customer collaboration and practical engineering solutions that can be produced accurately and installed reliably.
About the Position: The Mechanical Engineer will design, calculate, document and improve mechanical and structural components for aluminium window, door, framing, shopfront, partition, balustrade and custom fabrication systems.
The role sits at the centre of project delivery, turning architectural drawings and site conditions into manufacturable designs, supporting fabrication and installation teams, and ensuring products perform safely under load, wind pressure and everyday use.
This position is important to Total Aluminium Fabricators because custom and high-end work depends on sound engineering judgement, clear drawings and coordinated manufacturing methods.
Key Responsibilities: Design and develop mechanical and structural components for aluminium window, door, framing, shopfront, partition, balustrade and custom fabrication systems in line with project requirements.
Analyse architectural and engineering drawings, specifications and site conditions to produce technically appropriate designs for aluminium and glass systems.
Perform engineering calculations relating to loads, stresses, deflection, wind pressure, operating forces,
connections and material performance.
Select suitable aluminium profiles, alloys, fasteners, brackets, hinges, rollers, locks, fittings and other mechanical components.
Prepare detailed engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, component specifications, assembly details and technical documentation using CAD and other design software.
Develop manufacturing specifications, material requirements, tolerances, dimensions and fabrication methods so designs can be manufactured accurately and efficiently.
Design and optimise customised mechanical components and assemblies used in aluminium doors, windows, automated louvre systems, shopfronts, partitions, gates and other architectural products.
Evaluate existing designs and manufacturing methods and recommend modifications to improve structural performance, durability, functionality, safety and cost effectiveness.
Coordinate the engineering design process from concept and detailed design through fabrication, assembly, installation, testing and commissioning.
Assess production processes, machinery, tooling and equipment and recommend engineering improvements to increase efficiency and reduce material wastage.
Establish engineering procedures and quality-control requirements for fabrication, assembly, installation, inspection and testing.
Inspect fabricated components and completed assemblies to verify dimensional accuracy, tolerances, mechanical performance and compliance with approved drawings.
Investigate mechanical failures, defects, operational problems and installation issues and undertake root-cause analysis.
Develop preventive maintenance requirements for fabrication machinery, production equipment,
tools and mechanical systems.
Coordinate with production staff, fabricators, installers, architects, builders, suppliers and contractors to resolve technical issues during project delivery.
Review material utilisation, production capacity and project schedules to optimise labour, equipment and materials.
Ensure designs and manufacturing processes comply with applicable Australian Standards, building requirements, workplace safety requirements and project specifications.
Conduct site inspections and technical assessments to verify dimensions, installation conditions, structural requirements and constructability.
Develop engineering solutions for complex or non-standard applications, including curved, oversized, automated, double-glazed and customised aluminium systems.
Prepare technical reports, engineering calculations, specifications, inspection records, testing documentation and project engineering records.
Provide technical guidance to fabrication and installation teams regarding drawings, assembly procedures, tolerances, component selection and installation requirements.
Requirements : Australian citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to apply.
Bachelor in mechanical engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
Minimum of 1 year of relevant mechanical engineering experience.
Technical skills in engineering calculations, CAD/engineering drawings, material and component selection, manufacturing methods, Australian Standards applicable to windows, doors and glazing, and site/constructability assessment.
Interpersonal skills including clear communication with fabricators, installers, architects and suppliers, problem-solving under project timeframes, attention to quality and safety, and the ability to explain technical requirements to production teams.
How to Apply: To apply, applicants must submit their resume with a valid email address through this online portal.
