The Role Reporting to the Manager Environment and Regulatory Services, you will play a key role in protecting public health and supporting environmental compliance across the Berri Barmera Council district.
Deliver environmental health and regulatory services across the Council area.
Support public health, food safety and environmental compliance outcomes.
Assess wastewater applications and oversee CWMS compliance activities.
Conduct inspections, investigations and enforcement activities where required.
Provide expert advice to businesses, residents and Council staff.
Manage public health enquiries, complaints and compliance matters.
Maintain strong relationships with community members, regulators and stakeholders.
Responsibilities Deliver environmental health programs in accordance with relevant legislation and Council policies.
Conduct inspections and compliance activities relating to food businesses, public pools, wastewater systems and regulated activities.
Investigate public health complaints, environmental health risks and non-compliance matters.
Assess wastewater applications and support the management of Council's Community Wastewater Management Scheme (CWMS).
Monitor and maintain public health registers,
databases and regulatory records.
Coordinate vector control and disease prevention initiatives across the district.
Provide technical advice and support on environmental health matters to Council staff, businesses and residents.
Liaise with SA Health, the EPA, contractors and other stakeholders to achieve compliance outcomes.
Prepare reports, correspondence and regulatory documentation while maintaining accurate records.
About You Qualifications to allow appointment under the Environment Protection Act.
Qualification to be a SA Health Approved Food Auditor.
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline desirable.
Demonstrated experience in environmental health, public health, food safety or regulatory services.
Strong knowledge of environmental health, public health and food legislation.
Experience conducting inspections, investigations and compliance activities.
Ability to interpret and enforce legislation while applying sound judgement.
Solid written and verbal communication skills with a customer-focused approach.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and statutory timeframes.
Ability to build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Current Class C Driver's Licence.
