Through youth justice services, victim support programs and community partnerships, the Department addresses the complex drivers of youth offending, supports victims of crime and delivers outcomes that strengthen communities across Queensland.
About the Role Reporting to the Director-General and serving as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Deputy Director-General, Operations provides strategic leadership and executive stewardship of a statewide service delivery portfolio encompassing youth detention services (three youth detention centres, one youth remand centre, and a further centre to be commissioned in ****), youth justice regional operations across 26 regional offices, learning and development, and victim support services including Victim Assist Queensland.
This is a significant executive opportunity to lead statewide reform across youth justice, youth detention and victim support.
You will drive system-wide improvement, ensure the delivery of safe, effective and outcomes-focused services, and lead a division of more than 2,800 staff, four direct reports, an operating budget of approximately $438 million and a capital program of $250 million.
Key Responsibilities Lead a high-performing executive portfolio, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability,



continuous improvement and co-design.
Provide strategic leadership and advice to the Director-General, Minister, Board of Management and Government on youth justice, youth detention and victim support.
Lead the statewide delivery of youth justice and victim support services, aligned with government commitments and community expectations.
Drive whole of system reform, innovation and continuous improvement across policies, service models, governance frameworks and operational strategies.
Build and influence strategic partnerships across government, the non-government sector, industry, communities and key stakeholders.
Provide enterprise leadership of a large and complex division, including workforce capability, leadership development and organisational resilience.
Lead the management of complex strategic, operational, risk and industrial relations issues.
Ensure exemplary governance, financial stewardship and accountability, including oversight of significant public investment and statutory responsibilities.
About you You are an accomplished executive leader with a strong track record of leading large, complex service delivery portfolios within government, human services or related environments.
You bring exceptional judgement,



political acuity and stakeholder influence, with the ability to build partnerships across government, industry and community.
Additionally, you will bring: Significant executive leadership experience within complex government or human services environments.
Demonstrated success leading system-wide reform and service delivery improvement.
Robust stakeholder engagement and partnership-building capability.
Sound governance, risk management and financial stewardship capability.
Experience leading large, diverse workforces.
Demonstrated cultural capability, or a commitment to developing cultural capability, to support programs and community partnerships preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
A tertiary degree relevant to the role is highly regarded.
