Employer: FOUR SQUARE HOMES PTY LTDEmployment Basis: Full-TimeReports To: Director and/or nominated Site SupervisorPosition PurposeFOUR SQUARE HOMES PTY LTD requires a skilled Painter to undertake professional painting, decorating and finishing works across the company's residential construction projects.
The position is responsible for completing the full painting cycle, from assessment and preparation of substrates through to coating application, finishing, inspection and rectification.The Painter will work across internal and external building surfaces and will be expected to select and apply appropriate preparation techniques, primers, paints, stains, varnishes and other finishes according to the substrate, project specifications and required standard of finish.The position requires competent trade-level painting skills, sound knowledge of coating systems and surface preparation techniques, safe use of painting equipment, and the ability to independently complete allocated painting works while coordinating appropriately with supervisors and other construction trades.Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesI.
Surface Assessment and PreparationInspect walls, ceilings, doors, trims, timber, plasterboard, rendered surfaces and other building substrates to determine their condition and identify the preparation and coating requirements before painting commences.II.
Preparation of Painting SurfacesPrepare internal and external surfaces by scraping and removing loose or defective coatings, sanding, cleaning, washing, filling holes and cracks, patching imperfections, repairing minor surface defects and smoothing surfaces to achieve an appropriate base for painting.III.
Protection of Surrounding AreasProtect floors, windows, cabinetry, fixtures, fittings and adjoining finished surfaces through the proper use of drop sheets, masking materials, protective coverings and other measures before commencing painting operations.IV.
Priming, Sealing and UndercoatingApply primers, sealers and undercoats appropriate to plasterboard, timber, masonry, render, previously painted surfaces and other substrates to promote adhesion, achieve consistent coverage and protect the finished surface.V.
Paint Selection and PreparationSelect, prepare, mix and match paints, stains, varnishes and other coatings to achieve specified colours, textures, coverage and finishes, including the appropriate use of tinting, thinning and drying additives where required.VI.
Application of Paint and FinishesApply paints, stains, varnishes, protective coatings and decorative finishes using brushes, rollers,



spray equipment and other suitable tools while ensuring even coverage, clean cutting-in, appropriate film build and a high-quality finish.VII.
Interior Painting WorksComplete interior painting works including walls, ceilings, doors, frames, skirting boards, architraves and other building components while maintaining consistency of colour, sheen and finish throughout the property.VIII.
Exterior Painting WorksUndertake exterior painting and coating works on suitable building surfaces, considering exposure, weather conditions, substrate requirements and manufacturer specifications to achieve durable and weather-resistant finishes.IX.
Finishing and Defect RectificationInspect painted surfaces between coats and following completion, identify imperfections including runs, uneven coverage, visible preparation marks, poor adhesion or inconsistent finishes, and undertake sanding, touch-ups or recoating as required.X.
Working at Heights and Site SetupSafely erect, position and use ladders, trestles, mobile scaffolds and other approved access equipment required to complete painting works at height, in accordance with site procedures and applicable work health and safety requirements.XI.
Coordination of Painting WorksCoordinate allocated painting activities with the Director, site supervisor and other trades to ensure that preparation, painting and finishing works are completed in the appropriate construction sequence and without damaging completed work.XII.
Equipment Cleaning and MaintenanceClean and maintain brushes, rollers, spray equipment, trays and other painting tools after use and ensure equipment is stored correctly and remains serviceable for ongoing project requirements.XIII.
Materials and Worksite ManagementMonitor the use of paints, primers, sealers and consumable materials, minimise unnecessary wastage, maintain an orderly work area and advise management where additional materials are required to complete allocated works.XIV.
Quality, Safety and ComplianceCarry out all painting and decorating activities in accordance with project specifications, manufacturer instructions, company quality expectations,



workplace health and safety procedures and applicable construction-site requirements.Qualifications and ExperienceThe successful applicant is expected to possess:AQF Certificate III in Painting and Decorating, including the relevant practical training, or an equivalent relevant qualification; orAQF Certificate IV in relevant field; or at least three years of relevant painting and decorating experience where permitted as a substitute for formal qualifications;demonstrated practical experience undertaking qualified residential painting and decorating works;sound knowledge of surface preparation, coating selection, colour preparation and paint application techniques; andpractical competence using brushes, rollers, spray equipment, ladders, scaffolding and associated trade tools.Relevant experience and/or additional on-the-job training may be required depending on the applicant's qualifications and experience.Skills and CompetenciesThe Painter must demonstrate:strong knowledge of residential painting and decorating methods;competence in preparing plasterboard, timber, masonry, render and previously coated surfaces;ability to select appropriate primers, sealers, paints and finishing systems;competent brush, roller and spray application skills;strong cutting-in, finishing and colour-consistency skills;ability to identify and rectify painting defects;attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship;ability to interpret work instructions, plans, specifications and product information relevant to painting works;effective organisation and time-management skills;ability to work independently on allocated tasks and cooperatively within a construction team;sound understanding of safe manual handling, chemical handling and work-at-height requirements; andcommitment to maintaining clean, organised and safe residential worksites.Performance ExpectationsThe Painter is expected to deliver painting works that are properly prepared, consistently coated and professionally finished.
Completed work must meet the quality standards expected by FOUR SQUARE HOMES PTY LTD and be free from avoidable defects such as visible preparation marks, poor cutting-in, runs, uneven coverage, inconsistent sheen or incomplete finishing.The employee is also expected to complete allocated works efficiently, protect surrounding construction finishes, use materials responsibly, maintain painting equipment and cooperate with the wider construction team so that painting activities integrate effectively with the company's residential building program.Preference will be given to Australia Citizens and Permanent Residents
