The opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of one of Australia’s leading Business Packages portfolios.
Working closely with the Head of Packages, you will help improve portfolio performance, strengthen broker relationships, increase straight through processing (STP) and ensure key business priorities are translated into action.
This is a broad commercial leadership role spanning underwriting operations, broker engagement and portfolio management. You will work across the business to drive execution, remove obstacles, coordinate initiatives and support a more proactive, data-driven underwriting culture.
About QBE
At QBE, we get to the heart of what matters for our customers. And we do it all with a human touch.
We’re an international insurer with more than 13,000 people working across 26 countries – which means we’re big enough for your ambitions, yet small enough for you to make a real impact. It’s an exciting time. We’re building momentum towards our vision to become the most consistent and innovative risk partner.
What if you could have a positive impact – at work and in the world? As part of the QBE team, you’ll get to spend every day working with people who are passionate, talented and kind.
Your new role
In this role, you will:
- Drive and embed portfolio and operational initiatives, including renewal retention and win-back strategies, while supporting Team Leaders and underwriting teams through change and continuous improvement.
- Improve STP and operational efficiency by reducing manual effort, tracking benefits and coordinating the resolution or escalation of portfolio and operational risks.
- Build strong relationships with brokers and distribution partners through meetings, relationship reviews, industry events and the effective management of priority, complex or sensitive matters.
- Translate broker feedback and market insights into practical actions that improve broker experience, retention and sustainable growth.
- Produce and interpret reporting across growth, retention, profitability, productivity and STP, turning insights into recommendations, portfolio plans and targeted actions.
- Coordinate delivery across Underwriting, Product, Pricing, Distribution, Operations and Technology, monitoring outcomes and recommending course corrections where required.
About you
You are a commercially minded insurance professional who is equally comfortable analysing data, working with brokers, improving operations and driving change.
You will bring:
- Experience across commercial insurance, underwriting, portfolio management, operations, product or distribution.
- Strong commercial acumen and a sound understanding of portfolio performance drivers.
- The ability to convert data and insights into practical actions and commercial outcomes.
- Credibility with brokers and senior stakeholders, supported by strong communication, stakeholder management and problem-solving skills.
- An understanding of underwriting governance, risk appetite and regulatory obligations.
- Experience using reporting and analytical tools such as Excel, Power BI or similar.
