The Opportunity
At APA, our purpose is to secure Australia’s energy future. We’re not doing it alone. We’re doing it with our customers and communities as Australia’s energy infrastructure partner, a role our unique experience and expertise positions us to play.
We now have an exciting opportunity available for a Manager Market Research & Analytics to join our Strategy & Transformation team on a permanent full time basis.
Reporting to the Head of Market Research & Analytics, you will play a pivotal role in connecting market intelligence with business strategy, helping APA's Gas Transmission & Storage, Contracted Power and Gas Powered Generation (GPG) businesses make informed commercial and investment decisions.
This is a highly collaborative role where success is driven as much by stakeholder engagement and communication as it is by analytical capability. Working closely with leaders across the organisation, you will develop a deep understanding of business priorities and translate market intelligence, industry trends and quantitative analysis into clear, targeted insights that support strategic decision-making.
As a trusted advisor, you will proactively engage stakeholders across APA to identify emerging opportunities and risks, challenge conventional thinking, and provide evidence-based recommendations. You will be responsible for ensuring market insights are communicated in a way that is practical, relevant and actionable for a diverse range of audiences, from business leaders through to Executive Leadership Team and Board-level stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with business leaders across APA to understand strategic priorities and deliver targeted market insights that support commercial, operational and investment decisions.
- Build trusted relationships with stakeholders across Gas Transmission & Storage, Contracted Power, GPG and corporate functions, becoming a valued advisor on market trends, risks and opportunities.
- Translate complex market dynamics, analytical findings and forecasts into clear, compelling narratives and recommendations tailored to different audiences.
- Lead the delivery of strategic market intelligence and analysis that informs corporate strategy, growth initiatives and business planning activities.
- Facilitate discussions with stakeholders to challenge assumptions, test strategic thinking and support robust decision-making.
- Present market insights and strategic recommendations to senior leaders, Executive Leadership Team and Board-level audiences.
- Oversee the development and continuous improvement of APA's gas and electricity market outlooks, forecasts and energy transition scenarios.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external market participants, industry bodies, consultants and advisors to ensure APA maintains a leading understanding of market developments.
Your Background
- Demonstrated experience partnering with business stakeholders to deliver insights that influence strategic, commercial or investment decisions.
- Outstanding communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders across a broad range of functions and levels of seniority.
- Proven ability to translate complex analytical, technical or market information into clear, actionable recommendations for non-technical audiences.
- Experience presenting insights, strategic recommendations and business cases to senior leadership and executive audiences.
- Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to connect market developments to business opportunities, risks and strategic outcomes.
- Experience using market intelligence, economic analysis or industry research to support decision-making within energy, infrastructure or other capital-intensive industries.
- Knowledge of Australian energy markets, including gas and/or electricity markets (NEM and/or WEM experience highly regarded).
- Strong analytical capability, with experience developing forecasts, scenarios or market assessments to support strategic decision-making.
