About the role
An established International Engineering company with a dominant foothold in Australia is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its engineering team. This is a hands-on mechanical design role working across engineered equipment, piping and process infrastructure, taking projects from concept and tender design through detailed engineering, manufacturing, installation and commissioning.
Key responsibilities
- Produce tender and detailed drawings including P&IDs;, process drawings, plant layouts, elevations and 3D models
- Develop 3D piping layouts, piping schematics, isometrics and manufacturing drawings
- Design structural steel components including platforms, walkways, stairs, ladders and tanks
- Undertake mechanical calculations including flow calculations, nozzle loads, lifting lugs and equipment support loads
- Perform pump selection and prepare pump and motor specifications/data sheets
- Undertake heating analysis, stress analysis and FEA where required
- Design in accordance with relevant AS/NZS, ASME, API and BS standards
- Undertake appropriate material selection including stainless and duplex stainless steels
- Prepare equipment specifications and technically assess vendor quotations
- Liaise with pump, piping and mechanical equipment suppliers
About you
- Degree-qualified Mechanical Engineer with 5+ years' experience in mechanical design
- Industry background in Oil & Gas, Water & Wastewater, Process Plants, Pumps & Piping, Packaged Equipment / Skid Systems, Industrial Manufacturing, Energy or related heavy industry
- Experience with piping design, pumps, pressure equipment, mechanical packages, fabrication and multidisciplinary plant design
- Understanding that valuable engineering requires accuracy, compliance, constructability and manufacturability
