Transformativ exists to help businesses reimagine their enterprise and then deliver that change, with professionals who have done it before. We take on the hardest parts of that work across financial services, regulated service businesses and digital platform companies: core platform replacements, separations and integrations, data migration and cutover, operating model redesign, and the design and delivery of enterprise AI in regulated environments.
We work inside the program, alongside client teams, consulting partners and vendors. Our consultants are senior operators, and many work with us across more than one engagement.
The situation
You will join the Transformativ team on a client engagement. The client is an official institution standing up a foreign reserves and investment management function from a standing start. Transformativ is delivering the mandate, the investment policy, the operating model and the tooling that runs it, through to first trades under an approved policy.
The role
You are the analyst who makes the function work day to day. The engagement is led by a senior reserves and investment specialist who owns the policy substance and the client relationship. Your job is everything that turns that policy into something a small team can actually operate: the models, the controls, the reporting and the procedures.
The institution has no existing tooling and a very small team. There is no treasury management system yet, and one will not arrive for at least a year. So you are building the interim capability that runs the portfolio in the meantime, and building it so that every field maps cleanly into a treasury module later.
This is hands-on work. You will build the thing, test it, document it,
and then sit next to the client's staff while they learn to run it.
What you will deliver
- A dealing ticket and authorisation workflow with maker-checker controls built into the process
- A position and maturity ladder covering the full portfolio
- A limits and compliance checker that tests every holding against the approved investment policy and flags breaches
- Valuation and accrual models, including duration and mark to market
- A board and investment committee reporting pack that regenerates from the same underlying data
- Procedure manuals for front, middle and back office tasks
- A field mapping document showing how each data item moves into a future treasury management system
- Dry run test scripts and a defect log, run end to end before go live
What you will do
- Build the interim toolkit from scratch, in Excel or alongside a small application build, to a standard that survives external audit
- Translate the approved investment policy into machine-checkable limits: instrument eligibility, counterparty and credit limits, currency and duration bands
- Prepare the settlement, reconciliation and custodian instruction procedures, and support the custodian and correspondent banking onboarding paperwork
- Produce the first board reporting packs and hand the process to client staff
- Run the paper trading dry run, log defects, fix them, and evidence readiness
- Pair with named client staff from week one so the capability stays behind when the engagement ends
What you bring
- Experience in a treasury or investment middle or back office function: settlement, reconciliation, limits monitoring, valuation, or performance reporting
- Advanced Excel, including the discipline to build a controlled, version-managed, auditable model rather than a working spreadsheet
- Working knowledge of fixed income and money market instruments, and comfort with duration, accrued interest and mark to market
- Experience producing reporting packs for a board, an investment committee or an ALCO
- Transparent written procedure documentation. You will be writing manuals that someone else follows without you in the room
- The temperament for a small team with no infrastructure, where you build the answer rather than request it from another department
Useful but not essential
- Experience at a central bank, sovereign fund, government treasury or other official institution
- Exposure to custodian and correspondent banking operations, Nostro reconciliation or SWIFT messaging
- Familiarity with a treasury management system, and any experience of implementing or migrating one
- Python, SQL or R for modelling and data work
- Experience building a light internal application, or working closely with a developer who did
Where you have probably been
Treasury operations or investment operations inside a bank, an asset manager, a superannuation fund, a state financing authority or a corporate treasury. Or a middle office risk or performance team. Or a treasury consulting practice doing implementation rather than advisory.
