The Prospect

n

Not every Geotechnical Engineer wants to spend their career simply undertaking investigations and producing standard reports.

n

This opportunity is for an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer who enjoys the more technically challenging end of geotechnical engineering – understanding what is happening below ground and translating that information into practical engineering solutions for major structures above it.

n

You'll work closely with structural engineers on projects involving bridges, multi-storey buildings and other heavily loaded structures, providing the geotechnical interpretation and foundation parameters they need to develop safe, practical and commercially sensible designs.

n

The emphasis is very much on engineering judgement and foundation behaviour rather than purely geological investigation.

Your Role

n

You'll take responsibility for areas including:

n

n
- Reviewing and interpreting borehole, core and ground investigation information
n
- Assessing soil and rock behaviour and its impact on structural design
n
- Understanding how significant structural loads interact with varying ground conditions
n
- Determining appropriate bearing capacities and foundation design parameters
n
- Providing geotechnical advice for bridges, multi-storey buildings and other heavily loaded structures
n
- Developing practical foundation recommendations
n
- Preparing, reviewing and taking responsibility for geotechnical reports
n




- Working directly with structural engineers throughout the design process
n
- Translating complex geotechnical findings into explicit information that structural engineers can practically use
n
- Providing senior technical guidance and contributing to the development of less experienced engineers
n

What We're Looking For

n

n
- Ideally, you'll have approximately 10+ years' geotechnical engineering experience within the Australian market.
n
- You'll have a strong understanding of soil and rock mechanics together with significant experience in foundation engineering and the behaviour of structures under load.
n
- Most importantly, we're looking for somebody who can interpret geotechnical information as an engineer rather than simply report what an investigation has found.
n
- You'll be comfortable sitting down with a Structural Engineer and discussing:
n
- "What does this ground condition actually mean for the structure, and what is the most appropriate foundation solution?"
n
- That practical engineering capability is central to this position.
n
