Manager – Mining Engineering and Studies
MineBuild Global is a West Perth-based business delivering mining project management, technical and commercial support across greenfield start-ups, brownfield redevelopments and operational expansions. We take an owner-minded approach to our work, and we are growing rapidly.
We are seeking an experienced and commercially astute Manager – Mining Engineering and Studies to lead our Mining Engineering team and the delivery of high-quality mining studies for our clients.
About the role
Reporting to the Director, the Manager – Mining Engineering and Studies leads MineBuild's Mining Engineering team and the delivery of studies for MineBuild's clients, to the level required by each engagement. The role requires a robust understanding of client requirements and a technically and commercially astute, solutions-focused approach, ensuring the timely delivery of consistently high-quality work through the implementation and continuous improvement of standards, systems and processes.
The role also provides leadership and development to the Mining Engineering team, including resourcing, mentoring, performance management and continuous improvement of technical standards, systems and processes.
Key responsibilities
- Lead, mentor and develop the Mining Engineering team.
- Forecast resourcing requirements and allocate resources across concurrent studies.
- Develop and implement standards, systems and processes to ensure quality, accuracy and consistency of technical work.
- Lead continuous improvement of team processes, tools and ways of working.
- Define study scope, budget, schedule and resourcing requirements across Scoping, PFS and DFS studies.
- Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary study teams across mining, processing, infrastructure and approvals.
- Ensure alignment of scope,
design criteria and assumptions across disciplines and workstreams.
- Oversee capital and operating cost estimates and supporting financial evaluations.
- Facilitate risk identification and mitigation workshops, identify and manage technical and commercial risks, and lead structured change control during study phases.
- Manage consultants, specialist advisors and technical review and sign-off processes.
- Manage study budgets and schedules and provide clients with clear reporting on cost, schedule and risk performance.
- Support preparation of stage-gate and investment approval documentation.
- Ensure safety, environmental and regulatory requirements are incorporated into study scope and design.
- Support business development through proposals, fee estimates, capability statements and tender responses.
- Maintain strong client relationships and support identification of future work opportunities.
About you
- 15+ years' experience in mining project delivery and feasibility studies.
- Experience working across both open-pit and underground mining projects.
- Demonstrated experience leading studies from scoping to definitive feasibility.
- Strong understanding of mine planning, processing, infrastructure and site integration.
- Experience developing capital cost estimates and supporting financial evaluation.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary technical teams and consultants.
- Strong understanding of project controls including cost, schedule and risk.
- Familiarity with permitting, approvals and regulatory frameworks.
- Proven experience engaging with multiple stakeholders and clients.
- Demonstrated experience leading and developing technical teams, including performance management and mentoring.
- Experience supporting business development through proposals, tenders and capability statements.
- Strong leadership and coordination skills with a commercially aware and strategically focused approach.
- High level of accountability and ownership with a commitment to disciplined project governance.
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Mining Engineering or related discipline.
- Member or Fellow of The Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM) or The Australian Institute of Geoscientists (AIG).
- AusIMM Chartered Professional status is desirable.
- Project Management certification, such as PMP or equivalent, is desirable.
