The Queensland Parliament is seeking a highly motivated and strategic Committee Secretary to lead the operations of a parliamentary committee secretariat.
n
As Committee Secretary, you will provide strategic, procedural and analysis to parliamentary committees, lead a high-performing secretariat, and manage complex inquiries. You will analyse legislation and public policy, engage with diverse stakeholders, prepare authoritative briefings and reports, and support committee decision-making while maintaining independence, professionalism and political impartiality.

Key Objectives

- Act as the principal adviser to the committee on procedural, policy and operational matters.
n
- Lead committee inquiries, consultations and reporting processes.
n
- Provide high-quality analysis, research and advice to support committee decision-making.
n
n
Your Role
n
n
- Act as the principal adviser to a parliamentary committee, providing authoritative procedural, legislative and policy advice to support informed decision-making.
n
- Lead and coordinate committee inquiries efficiently and in accordance with parliamentary requirements.
n
- Analyse complex legislation, public policy issues and stakeholder submissions, translating technical information into clear and practical advice.
n
- Prepare high-quality reports, briefing papers,
correspondence and presentations that support parliamentary scrutiny and accountability.
n
- Facilitate stakeholder engagement and consultation activities with government agencies, industry representatives, community organisations and the public.
n
- Lead, mentor and develop a small secretariat team, fostering a collaborative, high-performing and professional work environment.
n
- Manage committee resources and budgets, ensuring effective planning, governance and service delivery.
n
- Maintain the highest standards of integrity, confidentiality and political impartiality in a agile parliamentary environment.
n
- Contribute to the Parliamentary Service's broader objectives by promoting organisational values, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, collaborating across service areas, and championing a one Parliamentary Service culture.

What We're Looking For

- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, particularly law, are highly desirable.
n
- Demonstrated parliamentary advisory skills.

- Demonstrated high-level research, analysis and communication abilities.

- Strong leadership, people development and collaboration skills.

- Excellent stakeholder engagement and client service skills.
n
