Senior Paralegal / Legal Practice Coordinator – Criminal Law
n Full-Time | Bundall, Gold Coast

Smith Cambridge Lawyers is a boutique criminal law firm based in Bundall on the Gold Coast.
n
We are looking for a highly capable Senior Paralegal / Legal Practice Coordinator to work directly with the Principal in a full-time position.
n
This is a key role within the firm.
n
We are looking for someone who understands criminal law, understands clients and understands how a legal practice needs to operate.
n
If you have worked in criminal law and have developed strong practice-management, file-management or senior legal support experience, this is an opportunity to take on a genuinely key role within a growing legal practice.
n
This isn't just another legal secretary position.
n
You will work directly with the Principal and become a trusted part of the day-to-day operation of the practice.
n
You will have significant involvement in:
n
n
- Criminal law matters from intake through to finalisation
n
- Client communication and client management
n
- Court and matter preparation
n
- File management and workflow
n
- Legal administration and practice systems
n
- Diary and deadline management
n
- Brief and evidence preparation
n
- Correspondence and document preparation
n
- Billing and accounts processes
n
- Liaising with courts, counsel, prosecutors and other stakeholders
n
- Improving systems and processes within the practice
n
n
The successful candidate will be someone who can see what needs to be done and make it happen.
n
Your responsibilities
n
Working closely with the Principal, you will be responsible for a broad range of legal and practice-management functions, including:
n
Criminal law
n
n
- Managing and assisting with criminal law files
n
- Reviewing briefs of evidence and organising case materials
n
- Preparing court documentation and matter materials
n
- Preparing chronologies, instructions and correspondence
n
- Assisting with court preparation
n
- Monitoring court dates, filing deadlines and critical dates
n
- Liaising with clients regarding their matters
n
- Liaising with courts, counsel, police and other legal professionals
n
- Assisting the Principal with preparation for mentions, pleas, bail applications, hearings and trials
n
- Maintaining accurate and comprehensive electronic files
n
n
Practice management
n
n
- Assisting the Principal with the efficient running of the practice
n
- Managing workflows and ensuring important tasks are followed through
n
- Improving and maintaining office systems and procedures
n
- Monitoring outstanding tasks and deadlines
n
- Assisting with billing, invoicing,
trust/accounting processes and debtor follow-up
n
- Coordinating appointments, conferences and court commitments
n
- Assisting with client intake and onboarding
n
- Maintaining high standards of file compliance and organisation
n
- Supporting the implementation of technology and practice-management systems
n
- Identifying inefficiencies and taking the initiative to improve them
n
- Helping ensure the practice operates professionally and efficiently every day
n
n
Working with the Principal
n

You will work directly alongside the Principal, rather than being several levels removed from decision-making.

What we're looking for
n
We are specifically seeking someone with previous experience in criminal law and legal practice.
n
Ideally, you will have:
n
n
- Several years' experience working in a legal practice
n
- Demonstrated experience in criminal law
n
- Strong legal secretarial or paralegal skills
n
- Experience managing criminal-law files
n
- Experience dealing directly with clients
n
- Excellent knowledge of court processes and legal documentation
n
- Strong organisational and time‐management skills
n
- Experience with practice‐management systems
n
- Experience with billing, trust accounting or general legal accounts processes
n
- An understanding of file compliance and legal practice procedures
n
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
n
- Exceptional attention to detail
n
- The ability to work calmly under pressure
n
- Strong computer and technology skills
n
- A proactive and solutions‐focused approach
n
n
Practice‐management experience will be highly regarded.
n
If you have previously worked as a senior legal secretary, paralegal, legal practice manager, practice administrator, legal executive or similar, we would particularly like to hear from you.

Remuneration
n
$75,000–$90,000 + superannuation, depending on experience
