About The Role

n

Reporting to the Public Health Manager, you will coordinate the day-to-day activities of Public Health Community Workers in Milingimbi and provide on-the-ground support and mentoring to Yolŋu staff working across a range of outreach programs.

n

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working alongside community-based teams, mentoring staff, coordinating programs and building strong relationships in a remote Aboriginal community setting. Regular travel to Milingimbi is an essential requirement of this position. The role can be based in Darwin or Nhulunbuy, with regular FIFO/outreach travel to Milingimbi.

Please note that housing is not provided with this position.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

n

n
- Coordinating the daily activities of community-based Public Health staff.
n
- Supporting Community Workers to plan activities, capture data and report against program requirements.
n
- Mentoring and supporting Yolŋu staff to build their skills and confidence.
n
- Supporting staff to access training and apply their learning in the workplace.
n
- Working across programs including the Rheumatic Fever Strategy (RFS) and Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS).
n
- Building relationships with visiting services and external stakeholders.
n
- Coordinating team involvement in community events and activities.
n
- Supporting administration, ICT and WHS requirements.
n
- Undertaking data collection, reporting, monitoring and evaluation of Public Health activities.

- Competitive salary of $114,554 - $128,062 per annum + 12% superannuation

- Ability to Salary Package up to $15,900pa plus a further $2,650pa on Meals and Entertainment
n
- 6 weeks of annual leave with 17.5% leave loading

We are looking for someone who has:

n

n
- A strong understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal Community Control and self-determination.
n
- An understanding of the issues experienced by Yolŋu people living in remote communities.
n
- Experience supervising or leading teams with competing priorities, ideally in a remote Aboriginal community.
n
- Relevant post-secondary qualifications or significant experience in the training and development of Aboriginal staff.
n
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
n
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
n
- Computer literacy, including experience using Excel for data and reporting.
n
- The ability to drive a manual 4WD.
n
- The willingness and ability to undertake regular travel/FIFO to Milingimbi.
n

Experience supporting and empowering an Aboriginal workforce in a remote setting, and the ability to speak an Aboriginal language from the Miwatj region and/or knowledge of traditional kinship systems, would be highly regarded.
