Baigents is a well established Melbourne consulting engineering practice with nearly 40 years' experience delivering structural and civil engineering solutions across the commercial, retail, industrial and infrastructure sectors.

We are seeking an experienced Structural Engineer who is either operating at an early senior level or ready to take the next step into a senior role.

The Role

n

This role will suit an engineer who has developed a strong technical foundation and is ready to take greater ownership of projects, client relationships and technical delivery.

n

You will work directly with senior engineers and directors while progressively taking responsibility for projects from design through construction.

n

Key Responsibilities

n

n
- Lead structural design and delivery across commercial, retail and industrial projects.
n
- Design steel, reinforced concrete, post tensioned concrete and timber structures.
n
- Undertake assessments and modifications of existing structures.
n
- Prepare and review calculations, sketches, mark ups and technical documentation.
n
- Coordinate and independently check structural drawings.
n
- Manage RFIs and provide practical construction phase engineering advice.
n
- Undertake site inspections, investigations and condition assessments.
n
- Liaise directly with clients, architects, builders and other consultants.
n
- Manage smaller projects independently and contribute to delivery of larger projects.
n
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and drafters.
n
- Assist with project planning, scope definition and fee management.
n
- Take increasing responsibility for project outcomes, programme and commercial performance.

About You

n

n
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
n




- Approximately 5 to 8 years of Australian structural engineering experience.
n
- Strong working knowledge of Australian Standards and the NCC.
n
- Demonstrated experience designing concrete and steel structures, with timber experience advantageous.
n
- Experience with existing building assessments, alterations and strengthening highly regarded.
n
- Confident communicating with clients, builders and site teams.
n
- Able to independently manage the technical delivery of smaller to medium sized projects.
n
- Comfortable reviewing and coordinating work prepared by other engineers and drafters.
n
- Practical, organised and solutions focused.
n
- Experience with SPACEGASS, Strand7, RAPT, IDEA StatiCa, Structural Toolkit, Inducta SLABS, ETABS, or similar structural software.
n
- CPEng and Victorian registration, or clear progress towards registration, highly regarded.
n
- Exposure to civil engineering or multidisciplinary projects will be valued.
n

You do not need to already hold a Senior Engineer title. We are equally interested in strong intermediate engineers who are ready to step into greater technical, project and client responsibility.
