The Role
n
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Billing Manager to join our Sydney-based Finance team on a permanent, full-time basis. As a key member of our collegiate and high-performing Finance function, you'll work closely with our National Legal Accounts Manager to oversee the day-to-day management of the National Billing function and team. Key Responsibilities
n
n
- Billing Lead the end-to-end billing and e-billing function to ensure timely, accurate and compliant invoicing aligned with organisational priorities.
n
- Define, implement and monitor billing and e-billing KPIs, proactively managing performance, risks, delays and rejections.
n
- Oversee month-end billing activities, advanced bill registers, cancelled invoices and, partnering with Commercial Finance to support revenue provisioning.
n
- Drive continuous improvement across billing processes, policies and centralised dispatching, with a strong focus on automation, efficiency and scalability.
n
- Manage complex billing activities including secondments, client rebates, early payment discounts and compliance with client billing terms and guidelines.
n
- Oversee the accurate submission of invoices through e-billing portals, including LEDES files, portal setup and client-specific e-billing requirements.
n
- Act as the escalation point for complex billing and e-billing issues, working collaboratively with partners, clients and internal stakeholders to achieve effective resolutions.
n
- Lead and deliver ad hoc billing initiatives and coordinate annual audit revenue requests within agreed timelines.
n
- Stay abreast of industry and market developments to identify opportunities for process and billing enhancements.

People Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
n
n
- Lead, develop and motivate a high-performing billing team, ensuring compliance with firm policies, processes and billing standards.
n
- Manage team performance, workloads, recruitment and onboarding, supported by regular one-on-one meetings, team forums and continuous training.
n
- Engage and collaborate with Partners and PA's to influence, drive change and implement best billing practices
n
- Build billing capability across the firm by partnering with Training, PAs and legal teams to address performance gaps and uplift Expert Billing knowledge.
n
- Collaborate closely with Collections, Commercial Finance, Pricing, Rates, NFM, Clients & Market Managers and Partners to support client billing requirements, tenders and escalations.
n
- Provide high-level expert support to the National Legal Accounts Manager and contribute to broader Finance and firm objectives.

Skills & Experience
n
n
- Significant experience, 5+ years leading billing and e-billing functions within a professional services environment (law firm highly advantageous).
n
- Proven people leadership capability, with demonstrated expertise in workforce planning, performance management and developing high-performing, engaged and collaborative teams.
n
- Deep technical knowledge of practice management software (Aderant Expert highly advantageous), e-billing platforms and end-to-end legal billing processes.
n
- Strong understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements relating to legal billing, and a working knowledge of adjacent finance functions including GST, accounts payable and trust accounting.
n
- Highly effective communicator with the ability to influence senior stakeholders,
build trusted relationships and collaborate across diverse teams.
n
- Analytical and commercially minded, with demonstrated success in driving process improvement, automation and operational efficiency.
n
- Adaptable and solutions-focused, with the ability to quickly learn new systems and implement innovative, scalable solutions.
n
- Advanced computer literacy, with intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel capability (including pivot tables and vlookups) and proficiency across the Microsoft Office suite.
