- Lead approximately 70 employees across seven operational functions
- Own safety, customer delivery, productivity and cost performance
- Join an established, WA family-owned transport and materials business
The opportunity
Aston Advantage is exclusively partnering with an established WA family-owned transport, logistics and building materials business to appoint an experienced Senior Operations Manager.
This is a key leadership position responsible for approximately 70 employees, five direct reports and seven interconnected operational functions. Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will take ownership of operational safety, people, customer delivery, fleet performance, productivity, cost control and continuous improvement.
It will suit a practical, commercially focused leader who enjoys being visible across the operation, developing supervisors and improving how multiple departments work together.
The role
You will oversee operations across building material supply, bulk haulage, earthworks, brick cartage, site recycling, workshop operations, and dispatch and customer delivery.
This is a genuinely hands-on leadership role spanning three core areas - the client interface, the supplier interface and workforce management. You will also have the flexibility to shape the role and structure as you see fit, to drive greater efficiency and build stronger cross-divisional ties.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Leading, coaching and developing five operational leaders and a team of approximately 70 employees.
- Championing WHS compliance and a solid, practical safety culture across every function.
- Driving customer service, on-time delivery and consistent operational performance across departments.
- Overseeing the heavy-vehicle fleet, plant, workshop equipment and company assets - improving utilisation and reducing downtime.
- Managing operational budgets, KPIs, labour costs and performance reporting.
- Building supervisor and leading-hand accountability, and supporting workforce planning, recruitment, induction and training.
- Managing key customer, supplier and subcontractor relationships.
- Identifying and implementing cost-saving, productivity and process improvements across systems and communication.
- Resolving operational issues calmly, decisively and commercially - ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, on time and profitably.
About you
You will be a visible, hands-on operational leader, comfortable managing a fast-moving transport, civil, materials or industrial environment. To be successful, you will ideally have:
- Senior operations leadership experience in transport, building materials, civil, earthmoving, recycling, construction supply or industrial logistics.
- Experience leading multiple operational departments and a large blue-collar or operational workforce.
- Experience leading supervisors, managers or leading hands.
- Strong WHS and Chain of Responsibility knowledge.
- Fleet, plant, workshop or heavy-vehicle management experience.
- Experience managing operational budgets, costs and KPIs.
- A track record of improving safety, service, productivity or cost performance.
- Strong customer, supplier and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to develop leaders and hold teams accountable.
- Strong computer and systems skills - a key part of this role is integrating and improving business systems to lift efficiency and productivity.
- Robust interpersonal skills and sharp attention to detail, comfortable juggling multiple priorities at once while staying calm and across the detail in a busy operation.
- A calm, decisive and commercially focused leadership style.
An HR driver's licence and qualifications in operations, logistics, transport, business or WHS will be highly regarded. Experience with NetSuite, Employment Hero, fleet management or transport management systems would also be advantageous.
Working environment
This role is based in the southern suburbs of Perth, so you will need to live south of the metro. Regular weekly travel across the northern and southern metro operations is required, with occasional regional travel to the Mid-West and South-West.
Operations run from 5:30 am to 6:00 pm Monday to Friday, and 5:30 am to 1:00 pm Saturday. You will not be expected to work this full span each day, but you will be responsible for ensuring appropriate operational coverage across these hours.
This is not a purely office-based role - you will stay visible across the operation, support the leadership team and maintain a strong understanding of daily performance.
What’s on offer
- A competitive salary package, negotiated to reflect the right person’s experience.
- Superannuation additional to base salary.
- A fully maintained dual-cab ute.
- Up to 10% KPI-based performance bonus.
- Company phone and laptop.
- A long-term, senior position with an established WA family-owned business.
- Genuine authority to influence operational culture, systems and performance.
- Broad leadership responsibility across a diverse operation, with real development and progression opportunities.
Recruitment process
The process includes an initial interview with Aston Advantage, followed by a two-stage client interview process. The preferred candidate will complete professional reference checks and a pre-employment drug and alcohol test; additional medical, licence or police checks may also apply.
