Marquis of Lorne | Fitzroy
n
The Marquis of Lorne is a neighbourhood pub in Fitzroy, recognised for thoughtful food, genuine hospitality and a long-standing connection to its local community.
n
Across three levels, we're a busy pub built around good food, good drinks and warm, professional service. We value consistency, teamwork and people who genuinely enjoy hospitality, and we're looking for an experienced Duty Manager / Shift Supervisor to join our front of house team.
n
The Role
n
This is a permanent part-time position of approximately 30 hours per week, with evening and weekend availability essential.
n
Working alongside our Venue Manager and senior leadership team, you'll be a hands-on presence across the floor and bar, helping lead service while supporting the wider front of house team.
n
This isn't a role spent standing back and watching service happen. You'll be in it with the team: serving guests, running sections, pouring beers, solving problems and helping make sure every service feels organised, professional and genuinely welcoming.
n
Your responsibilities will include:
n
n
- Leading and supervising the front of house team during service.
n
- Supporting junior team members and helping maintain consistent service standards.
n
- Ensuring the venue is set, prepared and ready for service.
n
- Providing confident food and beverage service across the floor and bar.
n
- Working closely with the kitchen team to deliver seamless service.
n
- Maintaining responsible service of alcohol and venue compliance standards.
n
- Monitoring guest experience and responding to issues as they arise.
n
- Assisting with venue opening and closing procedures.
n
- Completing end-of-shift cash reconciliation and ensuring floats are correctly managed.
n
- Maintaining presentation, cleanliness and operational standards throughout the venue.
n
- Supporting training and development of junior team members.
n
- Stepping up and taking ownership of the shift when required.
n
n
About You
n
You'll bring:
n
n
- Previous experience as a Duty Manager, Shift Supervisor, Team Leader or experienced senior front of house professional prefered
n
- Experience in quality pubs, bistros or restaurants.
n
- Strong food and beverage knowledge and a genuine interest in hospitality.
n
- Confidence leading a team during busy services.
n
- A hands-on approach. You're comfortable leading from the floor rather than the sidelines.
n
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
n
- Good judgement and the ability to make decisions during service.
n
- Confidence with POS systems, cash handling and closing procedures.
n
- Availability across evenings and weekends.
n
- WSET Level 2 is ideal
n
n
Wine, beer and broader beverage knowledge will be highly regarded, as will formal hospitality training.
n
Most importantly, we're looking for someone who takes pride in good service, enjoys working with people and understands that strong leadership on shift is often about setting the standard yourself.
n
What We Offer
n
n
- Permanent part-time employment of approximately 30 hours per week under the Publican.Co Enterprise Agreement.
n
- Guaranteed annual wage increases under the Enterprise Agreement.
n
- Favourable penalty and overtime provisions.
n
- Health & Wellbeing Program and enhanced parental leave
n
- Ongoing training and professional development.
n
- Opportunities to develop your hospitality career across the Publican.Co group.
n
- A reliable role within an experienced and established front of house team.
n
n
Why Join Us
n
The Marquis of Lorne is part of an independent hospitality group committed to thoughtful venues, professional development and long-term careers in hospitality.
n
You'll join an experienced team that values good food, positive drinks, genuine service and looking after the people around you.
