About the Role
n
As the Senior Bookkeeper, you'll take ownership of the day-to-day finance administration function while working closely with the Operations Manager and Management Accountant.
n
You'll lead and support the Bookkeeper and Payroll & Administration Officer, ensuring work is completed accurately, efficiently and on time.
n
This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll be expected to not only manage the numbers, but also develop your team, improve processes and hold people accountable.
n
Key Responsibilities
n
n
- Lead, mentor and support the finance team
n
- Allocate workloads and ensure key deadlines are met
n
- Provide training, feedback and knowledge sharing
n
- Maintain clear finance processes and procedures
n
- Address performance or compliance issues when required
n
n
Financial Operations
n
n
- Oversee banking, reconciliations and cash flow
n
- Manage and review accounts payable and receivable
n
- Monitor supplier and customer accounts
n
- Resolve escalated account issues
n
- Liaise with banks and key internal stakeholders
n
n
Reporting, Payroll & Compliance
n
n
- Coordinate month-end processes, reconciliations and journals
n
- Prepare and lodge BAS
n
- Oversee weekly and monthly payroll activities
n
- Support payroll tax, superannuation, workers compensation and other statutory obligations
n
- Liaise with external accountants as required
n
n
Project & Asset Finance
n
n
- Support project cost records, variations, claims and subcontractor statements
n
- Maintain the fixed asset register and depreciation records
n
- Manage insurance, vehicle registrations and service schedules
n
- Assist with financial reporting and business improvement initiatives
n
n
About You
n
We're looking for someone who combines strong technical bookkeeping skills with genuine leadership capability.
n
You'll ideally have:
n
n
- Significant experience in bookkeeping, accounting support or finance administration
n
- Previous experience leading or supervising staff
n
- Strong AP, AR, payroll and reconciliation knowledge
n
- Experience with BAS and financial compliance
n
- Solid Microsoft Excel and accounting software skills
n
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
n
- The confidence to delegate, provide feedback and have difficult conversations
n
- A practical, solutions-focused approach to improving processes
n
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
n
n
A Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping or equivalent is essential.
n
Experience in construction, manufacturing or project-based environments, along with ERP, payroll systems or project accounting, will be highly regarded.
n
