headspace Southport | Full Time | Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm

Based on Yugambeh Country, headspace Southport provides free, confidential and youth-friendly support for young people aged 12 to 25 years experiencing mental health concerns, alcohol and other drug issues, or seeking access to primary health care.

Operated by Lives Lived Well, headspace Southport is an early intervention service committed to helping young people improve their wellbeing through accessible, evidence-based and person-centred care.

We're currently seeking a passionate and experienced Senior Mental Health Clinician to join our multidisciplinary team in a full-time ongoing position based in Southport.

About the Role
n
As a Senior Mental Health Clinician, you will deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions to young people using headspace's Session-by-Session Framework, providing targeted support tailored to each young person's needs.
n
You will undertake assessments, provide brief therapeutic interventions, coordinate care, facilitate referrals and support young people and their families to achieve positive recovery outcomes.
n
As a senior clinician, you will also contribute to clinical discussions, review processes and provide support to colleagues within the service.
n
Reporting to the Team Leader, you will:
n
n
- Deliver evidence-based interventions using the headspace Session-by-Session Therapy model.
n
- Conduct bio-psycho-social assessments using the headspace assessment framework.
n
- Undertake comprehensive risk assessments, including suicide and violence risk assessments.
n
- Develop treatment plans and provide brief therapeutic interventions.
n
- Coordinate care and assist young people to access appropriate services and supports.
n
- Facilitate referrals and provide follow-up support where required.
n
- Participate in intake activities, including responding to referrals and enquiries.
n
- Facilitate psycho-social and clinical group programs for young people.
n
- Participate in case reviews, clinical discussions and multidisciplinary care planning.
n
- Confidently manage competing clinical and administrative priorities within a busy youth mental health service.
n
- Support team processes, allocation meetings and clinical review discussions.
n
n
About You
n
You are passionate about supporting young people and their families and bring strong clinical skills, sound judgement and a collaborative approach to your work.
n
You thrive in a multidisciplinary environment, value reflective practice and are committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care.
n
n
- Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or Mental Health Nursing.
n
- Minimum two years' experience, preferably in mental health and/or alcohol and other drug (AOD) services.
n
- Experience undertaking bio-psycho-social assessments and screening activities.
n
- Experience delivering brief therapeutic interventions, counselling services and treatment planning.
n
- Demonstrated ability to conduct comprehensive risk assessments, including suicide and violence risk assessments.
n
- Strong knowledge of mental health, evidence-based interventions and clinical practice.
n
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
n
- Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with young people, families, carers and stakeholders.
n
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
n
- Commitment to early intervention and positive youth mental health outcomes.
n
- Current Blue Card (Working with Children Check).
n
- Current Australian Driver's Licence.
n
- Ability to successfully obtain a National Police Check.
n
n
Professional Registration Requirements
n
Applicants must meet one of the following:
n
n
- Psychologists must hold current AHPRA registration (provisional registration will be considered).
n
- Social Workers must be eligible for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
n
- Registered Nurses must hold current AHPRA registration.
n
- Occupational Therapists must hold current AHPRA registration.
n
n
Please note: applications from Counsellors cannot currently be considered for this position.
n
n
- Previous experience in youth mental health.
n
- Experience working with young people aged 12 to 25 years.
n
- Experience within alcohol and other drug services.
n
- Experience facilitating groups and delivering psycho-social interventions.
n
- Case management or care coordination experience.
n
