Job Description
SMS Personnel is seeking an experienced Cost Accountant for a temporary assignment with a major Australian manufacturing business based in Kilsyth. The role is focused on product standard costing, inventory valuation and manufacturing cost analysis across a complex product environment.
The role
- Maintain product standard costs across business units and product databases.
- Maintain cost models used to evaluate standard costs.
- Support stocktakes and manage/report inventory valuation.
- Review and prepare manufacturing recoveries.
- Work with operations and engineers to establish standard costs for recent product bills of materials.
- Process standard-cost updates and stock adjustments.
- Analyse and report product price variances.
- Support product-obsolescence and slow-moving inventory analysis.
- Assist with annual labour and overhead rate reviews.
- Analyse manufacturing KPIs and contribute to business-process improvement.
- Support landed-cost reporting and reconciliation to the general ledger.
- Maintain and enhance ERP/BI reporting and prepare relevant month-end journals.
Requirements
- Proven experience working as a manufacturing Cost Accountant.
- At least four years' background and experience in costing.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
- Strong attention to product-cost detail and sound problem-solving ability.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and meet deadlines.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
- Experience using ERP systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with operational and finance stakeholders.
- Kilsyth-based temporary assignment.
- Hands-on manufacturing cost-accounting role working across product costing, inventory valuation and business reporting.
