Youth Disability Support Worker - Children & Young People | GSL: A Positive Start to Life
n
Not every child born with a disability gets a fair start. GSL exists to close that gap - and the people who work here are the reason it's possible.
n
As a Youth Disability Support Worker with GSL, you'll support children and young people aged 0-18 with complex physical, intellectual and mental health needs in their home life, learning and community inclusion. You'll be a consistent, trusted presence in the life of a young person who needs exactly that - someone who shows up, holds the line with warmth, and helps them build the skills and confidence to be a valued part of their community.
n
This is meaningful work. The kind you'll still think about years from now.
n
What you'll be doing
n
n
- Providing safe, person-centred care in a therapeutic home environment grounded in trauma-informed practice and strong child safety principles
n
- Supporting young people through daily life, learning and personal growth - following individual plans to build independence, confidence and life skills
n
- Creating a stable, nurturing environment where young people feel genuinely safe and heard
n
- Building real, trusting relationships through consistency, empathy and calm - being the steady presence they can depend on
n
- Encouraging community connection and social inclusion so young people feel part of something beyond their front door
n
n
You're the right person if...
n
n
- You have experience supporting children or young people with complex needs and you understand what trauma-informed, child-safe practice looks like in action
n
- You're reliable, emotionally grounded and don't rattle when things get hard
n
- You hold or are working toward a Certificate IV in Disability Support, Youth Work or a related field
n
- You hold a Working with Children Blue Card, NDIS Worker Screening Check (Yellow Card), current First Aid and CPR certificates, and a minimum P2 driver's licence
n
- You hold or are willing to apply for an LCS2
n
n
