About the role:
n
Regional Western Australia is full of opportunities. We currently have available a Welder Observer/Trades Assistant.
n
Based in Merredin, you will be reporting to the Team Leader - Civil.
n
You will undertake a variety of duties in a workshop environment and in the field across the district.
n
What the role will involve:
n
You're the type of person who is comfortable working in a flexible but supportive workplace. You are flexible in your work environment and are as comfortable working on site as you are in a workshop assisting in fabrication, welding and performing scheduled maintenance on Corporation assets.

You're always looking to develop and expand on your skills including:
n
n
- Carrying out operation and maintenance tasks requiring use of specialist tools, plant, and equipment
n
- Assist in the fabrication and maintenance of Water Corporation assets across the region (solder, spot or tack weld components using appropriate welding machines)
n
- Perform assembly and dismantling operations, such as bolting / unbolting pipe fittings and structures
n
- Occasionally, you will be required to work away from home that requires overnight stay/s
n
- Additionally, you will ensure legislative requirements are met and manage the safety and wellbeing of the welder when working in a field environment.
n
n
Key skills and experience:
n
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with effective communication skills.
n
The role involves regular manual handling tasks, and appropriate support or adjustments will be provided to ensure a safe and inclusive working setting for all candidates.
n
Your ability and willingness to travel, stay overnight, and work away from your usual location will be key to thriving in this role.
n
Your dedication to Occupational Health and Safety including hazard identification and well-developed communication and interpersonal skills are essential for this position. You have the ability to work in a close team environment.
n
You will also ideally possessing strong experience with:
n
n
- Experience assisting Boilermakers, Welders,
Mechanical Fitters, Machinists, or other tradespeople.
n
- Exposure to metal fabrication work will be highly regarded.
n
- Basic interpretation of drawings
n
- Experience in pipeline cement rendering
n
n
The following are desired but not essential:
n
n
- WA 'MR' Class drivers' licence
n
- Relevant High-Risk Licenses, including Dogging, Vehicle Crane, and Forklift
n
- Experience operating excavators and bobcats is advantageous but not essential
n
n
