About Us
The Palyku-Jartayi Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (‘PJAC’) was incorporated in January 2020 under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006.
As the prescribed body corporate of the Palyku Native Title Holders, PJAC holds the Palyku people’s native title rights and interests in trust to:
Promote the management of the language, culture, and traditional practice of the Palyku people;
Ensure that the Palyku people’s culture and heritage is recorded, protected, and shared within the Palyku community;
Ensure compliance with the obligations of the Palyku people detailed within Native Title and Aboriginal Heritage Agreements;
Develop and implement a Strategic Plan for PJAC;
Promote Palyku community development programmes.
Foster business and employment opportunities and promote sustainability;
Promote in all Corporation endeavours the common good of Palyku people through equitable action and enterprise.
The Role
PJAC is a growing Corporation requiring employees to be versatile and use initiative to support its development where needed. The below is a list of duties and responsibilities, however you will be required to assist in other areas when required.
Your Position Description will change and grow over time to fit the needs of the role and the business.
Reporting to the CEO of the corporation, the Finance Manager has the responsibility to manage the day-to-day financial operations of PJAC while ensuring accurate reporting, strong cash flow control and compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
You will work closely with senior leadership and operational teams across the business.
The role combines hands-on financial control with forward-looking commercial support. You will prepare budgets and rolling forecasts, analyse financial performance and provide clear recommendations to support sound decision-making and business strategy.
We are looking for someone who can explain not only what has happened financially, but what is likely to happen next and what management should consider in response
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Financial Leadership
Provide financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making.
Collaborate with senior leadership to set financial objectives and monitor progress.
Prepare financial reports and presentations for stakeholders and Board reporting.
Help management understand the financial implications of growth, operational and investment decisions.
Financial Operations
Perform and manage the end-to-end month-end close, including journals, accruals, reconciliations and reporting.
Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, ensuring integrity across all finance systems.
Actively manage accounts receivable, accounts payable and invoice approvals.
Budgeting, Forecasting and Reporting
Prepare annual budgets and forecasts in collaboration with leadership.
Produce monthly management reports, variance analysis and practical financial insights for the PJAC Board and committees.
Support Board reporting with clear, accurate and timely financial information.
Maintain forward forecasts that provide management with visibility over expected financial performance, cash requirements and emerging risks.
Cash Flow, Payroll and Cost Management
Monitor and prepare short and medium-term cash flow forecasts.
Manage payroll processing, compliance and reconciliation with financial systems.
Track job costs, work in progress and project margins, identifying variances and risks early.
Review supplier costs, invoices and payment runs to ensure accuracy and cost control.
Compliance, Controls and Audit
Prepare and lodge BAS, GST, payroll tax and other statutory returns internally or via an external accountancy.
Ensure compliance with AASB, taxation and financial regulations.
Maintain strong internal controls and audit-ready documentation.
Coordinate internal and external audits and address findings as required.
Systems and Process Ownership
Own and maintain financial systems.
Ensure data accuracy, system controls and continuous improvement of finance processes.
Support system enhancements to improve efficiency and reporting capability.
Identify opportunities to improve financial workflows, controls and reporting
Administrative and Meeting Tasks
Maintain electronic and manual files and keeping records up to date, secure and accessible, as appropriate.
Adhere to compliance procedures.
Attend Board and other key meetings, as required.

Adhere to PJAC policies and procedures, the Rule Book, Code of Conduct and all other legislative requirements as directed and amended by PJAC.
Selection Criteria
CA or CPA qualification or someone with senior experience as a Finance
Manager, Financial Controller or similarly accountable finance professional.
Experience managing a finance function with end-to-end responsibility.
Strong hands‑on capability across month-end, reconciliations and financial reporting.
Demonstrated experience in budgeting, rolling forecasts and financial analysis
Experience preparing monthly management and Board reporting.
Strong cash flow forecasting and working‑capital management capability
Experience tracking job costs, WIP and project margins.
Hands‑on experience with payroll, BAS and compliance reporting.
Experience implementing or improving internal controls and financial systems.
Ability to identify financial risks and recommend practical responses.
Confidence providing financial insights to senior leadership team.
Ability to coach and support staff.
Strong relationship‑building, planning and organisational skills.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Demonstrated adherence to a high standard of professional principles to ensure honesty, integrity and ethical decision‑making in all situations.
A high level of confidentiality, discretion and judgment.
Strong verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills.

Location and salary
