Position: Fishing Crew - Portland Victoria
Salary: From $72,000 per annum plus superannuation
Hours: 38 hours per week

About the Positions
Deep Blue Sharking Pty Ltd is an established commercial fishing company operating within Australian fishing zones. We are seeking suitably qualified and experienced applicants to join our commercial fishing operations in the following full time positions:
• Ship's Master
• Ship's Officer
• Deck Hand
• Fishing Hand
• Seafood Process Worker
Positions are based from Portland, Victoria, with fishing crew required to work aboard commercial fishing vessels and at sea according to operational requirements.
Salary
• Ship's Master: $80,000 or greater, depending on qualifications and experience
• Ship's Officer: $74,000 - $84,000
• Deck Hand / Fishing Hand: $72,000 - $82,500
• Seafood Process Worker: $72,000 - $82,500
All salaries are plus the applicable superannuation guarantee.
Duties and Responsibilities
Ship's Master
Responsible for controlling and managing the operations of the fishing vessel, including navigation, safe vessel operations, management of crew and oversight of fishing operations.
Ship's Officer
Responsible for navigating and controlling the safe operation of the vessel, undertaking watchkeeping duties and supervising and coordinating the activities of Deck Hands and Fishing Hands.
Deck Hand / Fishing Hand
Responsible for maintenance, lookout and commercial fishing duties aboard the vessel. Duties may include:
• handling ropes and wires and operating mooring equipment;
• standing lookout watches and adjusting the vessel's course as directed;
• assisting with cargo operations;
• performing routine maintenance and checks on deck equipment, fishing gear, rigging and safety equipment;
• attaching fishing gear and towing cables to nets;
• casting and lowering nets, pots, lines and traps;
• preparing and setting fishing lines;
• hauling fishing gear; and
• removing, sorting and handling catch.
Seafood Process Worker
Responsible for processing and handling seafood and catch, including cleaning, sorting, grading, preparing, packing and storing seafood products and maintaining clean and hygienic processing areas.
Qualifications and Experience
Ship's Master, and Ship's Officer
Applicants must have relevant commercial fishing and/or maritime industry experience appropriate to the position and hold the appropriate licence, registration, certificate of competency and/or maritime qualification required to perform the duties of the position.
Relevant experience may include experience gained as a Deck Hand, Fishing Hand or in another commercial fishing or maritime role where the applicant's actual duties, responsibilities and sea time are relevant to the position applied for.
Applicants who have recently obtained the appropriate licence, registration or certificate of competency are welcome to apply. Relevant commercial fishing or maritime experience gained before obtaining the licence, registration or certificate will be considered in assessing the applicant's qualifications and experience.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate that their qualifications and/or relevant experience are appropriate to the position applied for.
Deck Hand / Fishing Hand
Candidates for the positions of Deck Hand and Fishing Hand must have at least 1 year' Australian relevant work experience in this industry sector; or overseas experience with 2 years' or more experience being favourably considered.
All candidates need to be strong as these positions involve working on a deck, often in heavy seas and sometimes in cramped spaces. Ranked positions may include managing fishing operations aboard your vessel in consultation with the company owners.
You will be away from home for several days or occasionally weeks. Normally there is usually a short turnaround before returning to sea.
Seafood Process Worker
Applicants must have relevant qualifications and/or experience appropriate to seafood processing and be able to demonstrate the skills necessary to safely perform the position.
General Requirements
Applicants must be able to provide verifiable evidence relevant to the position applied for, which may include:
• employment references;
• sea-time records and/or logbooks;
• licences and registrations;
• certificates of competency; and
• relevant maritime, fishing or industry qualifications.
Applicants must be physically capable of performing the duties of their position and working aboard commercial fishing vessels in varying weather and sea conditions. Fishing crew may be required to remain at sea for several days or weeks depending on fishing operations.
