Our client, Glencore Mount Isa Mines, is seeking an experienced Reliability Engineer (Smelter) to join their Queensland Metals Operation. This is an outstanding opportunity for a reliability-focused engineer to play a key role in improving asset performance, reliability and plant availability across one of Australia's most significant copper smelting facilities.

The Opportunity

Working closely with maintenance, operations, projects and engineering teams, you will provide technical reliability support across the Lead & Copper Smelter. You will focus on improving equipment reliability, eliminating recurring failures, optimising maintenance strategies and delivering continuous improvement across critical plant assets.

Key Responsibilities

n

n
- Lead and participate in major failure investigations, RCA and ICAMs.
n
- Analyse asset performance and downtime data, including MTBF, MTTR and availability.
n




- Develop and optimise maintenance strategies for critical equipment.
n
- Utilise condition monitoring data including vibration, thermography, oil analysis and UT to assess asset health.
n
- Support shutdown inspections, major overhauls and recommissioning activities.
n
- Conduct criticality, reliability, fit-for-purpose and spares analysis.
n
- Identify and deliver continuous improvement and defect elimination opportunities.
n
- Provide technical input into CAPEX projects and maintenance strategies for new equipment.
n
- Support maintenance planning and SAP asset data integrity.
n
- Work closely with maintenance and operations teams to identify and resolve plant reliability issues.
n
- Support compliance requirements for critical plant and equipment.
n

Experience Required

n

n
- Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Reliability Engineering or a related discipline.
n
- Demonstrated experience as a Reliability Engineer, Asset Engineer, Maintenance Engineer or similar.
n
- Experience within mining, mineral processing, smelting or other heavy industrial environments.
n
- Strong knowledge of reliability engineering, maintenance strategies and asset management principles.i
n
- Experience with failure investigations, RCA/ICAM, condition monitoring and continuous improvement.
n
- Strong understanding of asset performance and reliability KPIs.
n
- Experience using SAP or other CMMS maintenance systems.
n
- Robust communication, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.
n
- A practical, hands-on approach to reliability and continuous improvement.
n

Experience within copper, lead, zinc, concentrator, smelting or other metallurgical processing environments will be highly regarded.
