Special Counsel or Partner Role – Litigation, Insolvency & Recovery

Job Description:
Fogarty Search is partnering with a growing boutique Melbourne firm to appoint an experienced senior lawyer to lead its litigation, insolvency and recovery practice.
The firm has built a reputation for strong, long-term client relationships and practical, commercially focused advice, and offers considerable autonomy to a senior lawyer looking to help shape and grow a practice as the firm continues to expand.
This opportunity will suit a motivated lawyer with at least 10 years' PQE in commercial litigation, ideally gained in a well-regarded mid-tier, large or specialist commercial firm, with strong technical expertise in insolvency, recoveries and enforcement.
The role will involve:
- Leading and overseeing the firm's litigation, insolvency and recovery practice, with matters across all Australian jurisdictions
- Taking responsibility for the strategy and conduct of complex commercial litigation, insolvency and debt recovery matters
- Advising on secured and unsecured recovery, including mortgage enforcement, PPSR issues and priority disputes
- Occasional advice on related lending and security matters, including mortgages, caveats and other security documentation
- Leading, supervising and mentoring a team of lawyers, and maintaining high standards of legal work and client service
- Maintaining strong, proactive relationships with key clients within a fast-paced national portfolio
This is a genuine leadership role, offering the opportunity to take ownership of an established practice, work directly with key clients, and play a meaningful role in its future direction — with an established and consistent stream of work and no expectation of arriving with an existing book of business. Candidates interested in developing current client relationships and growing the practice will have significant scope to do so.
