The Midwest Region extends along the coast from Lancelin in the south to north of Carnarvon then inland past Meekatharra. The regional headquarters is in Geraldton. District offices are located at Geraldton, Jurien Bay and Denham, with District work centres at Monkey Mia, Burringurrah, Yulga Jinna, Gascoyne Junction, Kalbarri, Thundelarra, Cue, Cervantes and the Pinnacles. The lands and waters we manage with our Traditional Owner partners are diverse and beautiful, from coastal cliffs, dunes and heath to rich marine communities to outback ranges and vast scrublands.

We currently have an opportunity for an Operations Manager to join our team.

Under the minimal direction of the District Manager, this position:

- Leads and implements operational joint management works programs for the Gascoyne District, determining standards and ensuring all activities are compatible with departmental and service objectives and joint management responsibilities.
- Leads and manages staff and ensures a close liaison and working relationship occurs across the district and between regional staff and specialist branches, to provide for an integrated and effective delivery of services.
- Oversees the management of ranger teams with a focus on promoting and encouraging Aboriginal involvement in the workforce and works to increase Aboriginal participation.

The successful applicant will be required to possess or obtain a current and satisfactory National Police Check prior to commencement.

Selection Criteria

- Substantial experience in natural resource management including cultural, environmental,



recreational, fire, terrestrial, and reserve management, within a preference for experience in working with Traditional Owners.
- Considerable experience of high-level leadership, supervisory, organisational, works program planning, and human resource management skills; including a demonstrated ability to promote staff development, deal with contentious issues, improve performance and empower staff to achieve agreed outcomes.
- Evidence of high-level oral communication and interpersonal skills, and experience in effective liaison and negotiation with other government agencies, industry, stakeholders, and community interest groups, and the media, plus ability and willingness to work with Traditional Owners with a preference for someone who has demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal people and having an awareness of their culture.
- Considerable experience in and knowledge of administrative and financial management, including budget preparation and expenditure control.
