Executive Director - Business Development & Private Clients
Senior client-facing leadership role | Private investment company | Non-bank alternatives
We are seeking an experienced Business Development Manager / Sales Executive to join our company as an Executive Director, with primary responsibility for growing our private client base and developing long-term client relationships.
This is an opportunity for an accomplished business developer to become part of the leadership of an investment company, combining hands-on client acquisition and relationship management with the responsibilities and influence of an Executive Director.
Our business works with private clients seeking non-bank investment and capital alternatives, with a focus on providing professional, responsive and relationship-led solutions. The group has a portfolio of private equity assets in Australia and overseas including technology, communications, cybersecurity and real estate.
Note: The current Executive Director is winding down their involvement due to personal health challenges and will remain with the group in an alternative capacity.
The Role
The Executive Director - Business Development & Private Clients will take responsibility for expanding the company's client base, developing new business opportunities and building strong relationships with private investors, high-net-worth individuals and business owners.
You will work closely with the group's existing executive team while also participating in the governance, strategy and oversight of the business as a member of the Board.
The role is client-facing and will suit someone who enjoys developing relationships, opening doors, converting opportunities and representing a business at a senior level. You will have the opportunity to represent the business publicly at events and online to grow market awareness.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Client Growth
Nurture inbound investment leads to secure capital for the company
Grow the company's network of investors, high-net-worth individuals, family offices, business owners and professional intermediaries.
Manage prospective clients from initial introduction through to onboarding and ongoing relationship management.
Develop referral relationships with accountants, lawyers, wealth advisers, corporate advisers and other professional networks.
Re-engage existing and prospective clients and identify opportunities to deepen relationships.
Represent the company at meetings, presentations, events and industry functions.
Develop and execute business development strategies designed to materially grow the company's client base and revenue.
Maintain a disciplined pipeline and provide regular reporting on leads, opportunities, conversions and client activity.
Work with management on marketing campaigns, client communications and other initiatives designed to generate new business.
Contribute to the group's overall commercial strategy and growth plans.
Provide market and client feedback to assist with the development of current products, services and opportunities.
Work collaboratively with management across operations, marketing, compliance and client service.
Help establish a high standard of professionalism, responsiveness and client experience throughout the organisation.
Board Responsibilities
As an Executive Director, you will also undertake the normal responsibilities associated with serving as a director of the company, including:
Strategic decision-making.
Monitoring the company's performance, financial position, risk and governance.
Exercising independent judgement in the best interests of the company.
Maintaining appropriate oversight of compliance and risk management.
Ensuring the company maintains appropriate standards of governance and conduct.
Complying with applicable directors' duties, corporate laws and regulatory requirements.
About You
We are looking for someone with a strong commercial mindset and an established ability to build trust with sophisticated private clients.
You may currently work in a business development role, capital raising or another relationship-driven environment.
Ideally, you will bring:
A demonstrated track record in business development, sales or client relationship management.
Confidence dealing directly with Australian clients.
The ability to generate new relationships rather than simply service an existing book.
Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills.
Strong commercial judgement and an entrepreneurial approach.
A high level of personal credibility, professionalism and discretion.
An understanding of the responsibilities associated with becoming a company director.
What Makes This Opportunity Different
This role provides substantially greater involvement than a conventional Business Development Manager position.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to:
Join the business at Executive Director level.
Participate directly in the company's strategy and growth.
Develop and manage a significant private client portfolio.
Build a business alongside the existing leadership team.
Benefit directly from the commercial success they help create.
Establish themselves as a senior representative and leader of the company.
We are particularly interested in candidates who are ambitious, well-connected and motivated by the opportunity to build something, rather than simply inherit an established sales territory.
Remuneration
An attractive executive remuneration structure will be negotiated with the successful candidate and may include a combination of:
Base remuneration;
Performance-based commissions or incentives;
Executive Director remuneration; and
Longer-term incentives aligned with the growth of the company.
The structure will be designed to strongly reward genuine client acquisition, capital inflows and long-term contribution to the business.
