- Fixed Term Contract - Dec 2027
- Site-Based, Central Queensland

The Opportunity
We are partnering with one of the well-established, highly reputable, and evolving coal mining organisations in Australia to identify an experienced Senior HR Business Partner for their Central Queensland operations. This fixed-term contract offers a premier entry point for an experienced HR Generalist looking to pivot into the Australian mining sector. While a high level of professional maturity and HR expertise is required, prior mining experience is not required. For a Senior Advisor currently working in a different industrial field, this role provides a rare opportunity to gain specialised site-based experience, master the complexities of the Coal Award, and build a high-value profile within the resources sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Industrial & Employee Relations: Provide interpretation and practical application of the Fair Work Act, the Coal Mining Industry Award, and site-specific Enterprise Agreements. Lead complex investigations and manage disciplinary processes with high procedural fairness.
- Leadership Coaching: Act as a proactive advisor to frontline leaders, coaching them on performance management, conduct, leave management, and effective people leadership.
- Operational Excellence: Manage the end-to-end employee lifecycle, including onboarding, internal movements, and offboarding.
- Strategy & Culture:
Support the delivery of site-wide employee engagement, culture, and wellbeing initiatives tailored to an operational workforce.
- Data & Reporting: Utilise HRIS data to provide accurate reporting and analysis, supporting strategic workforce planning and evidence-based decision-making.
- Service Delivery: Maintain a "hands-on" approach within a small, dedicated team, balancing senior-level advisory tasks with the essential daily operational requirements of a mine site.
Experience Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: A minimum of 6 years’ HR Generalist experience in an operational or industrial environment. Applications are encouraged from professionals in comparable sectors such as Oil & Gas, Civil Construction, Renewables, Heavy Manufacturing, Logistics, or Utilities.
- Legal Knowledge: Demonstrated experience managing complex employee and industrial relations (ER/IR) matters, including formal investigations and disciplinary processes, with the ability to apply the Fair Work Act and industrial instruments practically.
- Communication: Exceptional written communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality reports and documentation for senior stakeholders.
- Systems: Proficiency in SAP and SuccessFactors is highly regarded; advanced Microsoft Office skills are essential.
- Compliance: Must hold a current Driver’s License and be able to meet the medical requirements for site access.
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will be a practitioner who combines professional polish with the grit required for a site-based role. Our client is seeking a "self-starter" who is equally comfortable contributing to strategic discussions as they are executing the fundamental "grunt work" required in a lean team environment.
