As aSenior Compliance Inspector with Consumer and Business Services (CBS), you will play a key role in delivering targeted compliance activities across South Australia. You will conduct inspections, engage with businesses, provide guidance and take action where legislative requirements are not met. This role provides an opportunity to contribute to high-profile regulatory work that has a direct impact on community safety and fair-trading outcomes.
Working alongside inspectors, investigators, law enforcement agencies and government partners, you will help address serious non-compliance, support legitimate businesses and strengthen confidence in South Australia’s regulatory system. With a focus on proactive compliance, targeted inspections and coordinated operations, Consumer and Business Services (CBS) is responding to emerging marketplace risks and protecting the integrity of the SA marketplace.
What you'll be doing
Conduct inspections to assess compliance with relevant legislation.
Providing education and advice to licensees, traders and consumers.
Gather, secure, manage and process evidence in accordance with legislative requirements.
Issue notices, expiations and other compliance actions to address any breaches.
Assist with interviews, document reviews and investigative activities.
Represent CBS in court proceedings and provide credible witness testimony.

You bring experience conducting inspections, gathering evidence and applying legislation with confidence and fairness. You're comfortable making decisions under pressure, preparing clear documentation and working alongside others to deliver consistent, high-quality compliance outcomes.
About the Business
The Attorney-General's Department (AGD) is a key portfolio within the South Australian Government, employing more than 1,900 staff. AGD delivers high-level legal services and advice to Ministers and government agencies, provides specialist policy support, oversees regulation and compliance functions, and delivers essential services directly to the community.
Consumer and Business Services (CBS) is a division of the Attorney-General's Department and is responsible for protecting consumers, supporting and regulating businesses and recording significant life events for South Australians. CBS is customer focussed and flexible in its activities, providing accessible information and services.
This role contributes to the strategic goals of CBS through strategic and operational oversight of a portfolio of significant projects aimed at improving the security, efficiency, and effectiveness of CBS operations. This includes maintaining and improving customer service standards across CBS in line with SA government initiatives.
Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory.

Some out of hours work may be required.
Some interstate and intrastate travel may be required.
Must hold a current Australian issued driver's licence (equivalent to minimum class C).
May be required to work according to a 7-day roster including nights, weekends and public holidays. Eligible to be appointed and exercise the powers and functions of an Authorised Officer or Inspector under relevant legislation.
