Role Description
n
The Intermediate Mechanical Engineer will support the design and delivery of mechanical building services, with a focus on HVAC and mechanical smoke control systems for commercial, industrial, and institutional projects.
n
Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing and reviewing mechanical designs, calculations, specifications, and documentation; coordinating with multidisciplinary engineering teams and external stakeholders; and contributing to project planning, cost estimation, and design reviews.
n
The role also involves conducting site inspections in the construction phase, preparing technical reports, and assisting with third-party reviews to ensure compliance with codes, standards, and client requirements.
n
This is a full-time, on-site position based in the Greater Sydney Area, requiring regular collaboration with project managers, contractors, and clients.

Qualifications

- Robust knowledge of mechanical building services engineering, including HVAC system design, mechanical ventilation, and mechanical smoke control systems.
n
- Proficiency in engineering design tools and software (e.g., AutoCAD or Revit, load calculation tools) and ability to produce clear technical drawings and documentation.
n
- Experience applying relevant Australian building codes, standards, and regulations, particularly those related to mechanical services and fire safety.
n
- Demonstrated skills in technical reporting, project documentation, and reviewing designs for quality, constructability, and compliance.
n
- Ability to perform site inspections, assess installation quality, and communicate findings and recommendations in a structured, professional manner.
n
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with clients, architects, contractors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
n
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline, with several years of relevant building services experience at an intermediate level.
n
- Membership or eligibility for membership with a professional engineering body (e.g., Engineers Australia) and progress toward or interest in chartered status.
n
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a practical approach to delivering fit-for-purpose, value-driven solutions.
n
- Experience in the Greater Sydney Area construction market and familiarity with local industry practices is an advantage.
