Control Systems Engineer

We are currently seeking a Control Systems Engineer to join a mining owner/operator in WA. This is an opportunity to get in early as they look to bring engineering capability in-house.

n

This position will commence as a short-term contract, with the potential for extension based on project requirements and performance. It offers an excellent opportunity to work on a range of operational and project-based automation initiatives within a technically diverse environment.

n

The role will suit an engineer with hands-on experience in PLC, SCADA and instrumentation systems who enjoys a mix of design, troubleshooting, commissioning and operational support. Working alongside electrical, operations and project teams, you will play a key role in maintaining and improving plant automation systems across a range of brownfield projects for two process plants in WA.

Responsibilities

n

n
- Develop, modify and troubleshoot PLC programs using Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Automation Studio 5000 platforms.
n
- Configure, maintain and support Citect SCADA and Plant SCADA systems.
n
- Perform instrumentation configuration, calibration, loop checking and fault finding activities.
n
- Support site commissioning activities, shutdowns and operational improvement projects.
n
- Diagnose and resolve issues associated with PLCs, SCADA systems, field instrumentation and industrial communication networks.
n
- Read and interpret P&IDs;, electrical schematics, control schematics, single-line diagrams and I/O drawings.
n




- Assist in the development and maintenance of technical documentation including:n n
- Functional Design Specifications (FDS)
n
- Control Narratives
n
- Cause & Effect Matrices
n
- I/O Lists
n
- Test Procedures and Commissioning Documentation
n

n
- Work closely with operations and maintenance personnel to optimize plant performance and reliability.
n

n

Experience & Skills

n

n
- 3-5 years' experience in mining, mineral processing, manufacturing or heavy industrial environments.
n
- Practical experience programming and troubleshooting Allen-Bradley PLCs using Studio 5000.
n
- Experience supporting Citect SCADA and/or Plant SCADA systems.
n
- Strong understanding of industrial control systems and instrumentation.
n
- Ability to interpret P&IDs;, control schematics and electrical drawings.
n
- Experience with commissioning, shutdown support and troubleshooting within operating facilities.
n
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP and Modbus.
n
- Strong problem-solving, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
n
- Ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
n

Desirable Experience

n

n
- Experience with PowerFlex, Danfoss or similar VSD platforms.
n




- Experience with motor management and overload protection systems including E300 and TeSys T.
n
- Understanding of safety systems, interlocks and plant protection philosophies.
n
- Exposure to industrial networking, managed switches and network architecture.
n
- Knowledge of alarm management, historians and process trending systems.
n
- Experience working with conveyors, crushers, pumps, stackers, reclaimers or similar mining equipment.
n
- Exposure to FAT, SAT and commissioning activities.
n
- Basic understanding of MCCs and industrial power distribution systems.
n
- Exposure to GE, Emerson or Siemens automation platforms would be advantageous.
n

Qualifications

n

- Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, Control Systems or Automation Engineering.
n
- Australian working rights.
n
- Current driver's license.
n
- Ability to travel to site when required
n
