Job Description

We're seeking a proactive, hands-on Part Time HR Officer to join our team 3 days per week. Reporting to Senior Management, you'll be the go-to person for all things people-related — from recruiting new talent to keeping our policies, compliance, and employee relations running smoothly. This is a broad generalist role, ideal for someone who enjoys variety and wants genuine ownership of the HR function in a growing business.

Key responsibilities

- Manage end-to-end recruitment: writing ads, screening candidates, coordinating interviews, and extending offers
n
- Coordinate pre-employment checks (working rights, licences, tickets/certifications relevant to shipyard work)
n
- Design and deliver a smooth onboarding and induction experience for new starters, including site inductions
n
- Act as a trusted first point of contact for staff and managers on day-to-day HR matters
n
- Support performance management, grievance handling, and conflict resolution
n
- Help foster a positive, safety-first workplace culture
n
- Maintain and update HR policies and procedures to keep pace with legislation and business needs
n
- Support Work Health & Safety (WHS) compliance in a shipyard/industrial environment, including incident documentation and training records
n
- Ensure compliance with the Fair Work Act, relevant Awards, and other employment obligations
n
- Support payroll processing and liaise with finance on pay, leave, and entitlement queries

About you

n

n




- Proven experience in a generalist HR role, ideally within construction, marine, manufacturing, or another trades-based/industrial environment
n
- Solid working knowledge of Australian employment law, the Fair Work Act, and relevant Modern Awards
n
- Practical understanding of WHS obligations and experience supporting safety compliance
n
- Confident handling recruitment end-to-end, from sourcing through to onboarding
n
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the judgement to handle sensitive matters discreetly
n
- Highly organised, with robust attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities across 3 days a week
n
- Tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Business, or a related field (desirable but not essential with strong relevant experience)

- Experience with payroll systems and HR/HRIS software is a plus
