Disability Support Worker - Holistic Health and Complex Support

Wellness Waves Support Services is looking for an experienced, compassionate Support Worker who values holistic health, wellbeing and person-centred care, while also being confident supporting participants with complex behaviours and personal care needs.
n
This is an independent contractor position, with superannuation paid on top of your agreed hourly rate.
n
We are looking for someone who understands that great support goes beyond completing tasks. It is about supporting the whole person - their physical health, emotional wellbeing, independence, routines, relationships and overall quality of life.
n
About the Role
n
You will provide one-on-one support to NDIS participants across the Sunshine Coast, helping them build independence, maintain meaningful routines and feel safe, supported and empowered in their daily lives.
n
Your shifts may include:
n
n
- Personal care, including showering, dressing, toileting and hygiene support
n
- Supporting participants with complex behaviours and emotional regulation
n
- Following Behaviour Support Plans and established support strategies
n
- De-escalation and remaining calm during challenging situations
n
- Community access and social participation
n
- Supporting appointments, shopping and everyday activities
n
- Meal preparation and healthy lifestyle support
n
- Encouraging movement, exercise and meaningful activities
n
- Supporting routines and general wellbeing
n
- Medication support in line with participant plans and procedures
n
- Building independence and everyday living skills
n
- Completing accurate shift notes, incident reports and documentation
n
- Working collaboratively with participants, families, management and allied health professionals
n
n
Who We're Looking For
n
We are particularly interested in Support Workers who genuinely value a holistic approach to health and wellbeing.
n
You may have an interest, qualification or background in areas such as:
n
n
- Fitness, exercise or movement
n
- Mental health and emotional wellbeing
n
- Nutrition and healthy lifestyle habits
n
- Mindfulness, yoga, meditation or breathwork
n
- Psychology or counselling
n
- Behavioural support
n
- Community health or disability support
n
n
At the same time, this role requires someone with real confidence and experience supporting complex needs.
n
You should be comfortable supporting participants who may experience:
n
n
- Complex or challenging behaviours
n
- Emotional dysregulation
n
- Autism and neurodivergence
n
- Mental health challenges
n
- Trauma-related behaviours
n
- Communication difficulties
n
- High support needs
n
- Personal care requirements
n
n
You need to be someone who can remain calm, grounded and professional under pressure, while maintaining dignity, respect and participant choice.

Contractor Arrangement
n
This position is offered on an independent contractor basis.
n
Contractors are paid an agreed hourly contractor rate, with superannuation paid on top of that rate.
n
As a contractor, you will need to:
n
n
- Hold a current ABN
n
- Maintain appropriate Public Liability and Skilled Indemnity insurance
n
- Manage your own tax obligations
n
- Maintain all required screening checks and qualifications
n
- Provide invoices in accordance with Wellness Waves processes
n
n
Essential Requirements
n
Applicants should have, or be willing to obtain:
n
n
- NDIS Worker Screening Check
n
- Working with Children / Blue Card where applicable
n
- Current First Aid and CPR
n
- Current Australian driver's licence
n
- Reliable and appropriately insured vehicle
n
- Relevant disability or community services experience
n
- Experience supporting complex behaviours
n
- Experience providing personal care
n
- Ability to complete clear and accurate documentation
n
- Ability to use a smartphone for rostering, communication and shift reporting
n
n
A Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Disability, Mental Health, Community Services or similar is highly regarded.
