People, Culture and Performance Manager - Automotive Dealership Group

You’re probably not looking. That’s exactly why we’re talking to you.

The best person for this job already has a job. If that’s you, keep reading — this is the top HR seat in one of Queensland’s largest, fastest-growing family-owned automotive groups, reporting straight to the Director, with a team behind you and real room to build something that’s yours.

Westpoint Autos Group is a large, successful, family-owned Automotive Dealer Group in Queensland, operating from Beaudesert to Bowen and headquartered in Brisbane’s western suburbs. The Group includes Westpoint Autos, Whitsunday Autos, Beaudesert Auto Group and Salters Cars, spanning new vehicle OEM dealerships, authorised service and repair workshops, a 4WD & Off-Road Superstore, an independent finance and brokerage business, a rideshare and subscription partnership, and one of the largest used vehicle operations in Queensland.

We’re growing, and growth creates people problems that spreadsheets and policies alone don’t solve. We’re not after someone who needs a job. We’re after someone who’s outgrown their current one — who wants direct access to the Director, a real mandate, and the autonomy to shape how a multi-site group looks after its biggest asset: its people.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Director and working hand-in-hand with the Leadership Team, this is a hands‑on, high‑influence role covering the full employee lifecycle across every part of the business. You won’t be doing it alone — you’ll lead a small HR team, including a dedicated Payroll Coordinator, giving you the support to focus on strategy as well as execution.

It’s a senior role, but make no mistake, the sleeves‑up expectation is real. You’ll be working the floor as much as the boardroom, and you’ll need to build fast, genuine trust with the Dealer Principals and General Sales Managers at each site — they need to know you get their world before they’ll let you change it.

What You’ll Own

- Team leadership: lead and develop the HR team, including oversight of payroll, to keep the function accurate, compliant and running tight.
- Strategic partnering: work alongside the Leadership Team to shape HR strategy that drives growth, efficiency and results.
- Talent acquisition and onboarding: run end‑to‑end recruitment and build an onboarding experience people actually remember.
- Employee relations: be the trusted go‑to on conflict resolution, disciplinary matters and grievances,

while keeping culture strong.
- Performance management: lead performance reviews, help set departmental KPIs, and coach managers through performance issues.
- Reward and recognition: build and manage group‑wide recognition programs that people care about.
- Training and development: identify skill gaps and build training that lifts customer service, technical capability and leadership — with a genuine focus on promoting from within.
- Compliance and policy: keep HR policy sharp and current against the Fair Work Act and automotive industry standards.
- Remuneration and benefits: design competitive pay structures, commission and bonus schemes, and wage reviews that stack up against budget and manufacturer expectations.
- Workforce planning: build workforce plans that support business growth and give employees a real career path.
- Apprentices and offshore workforce: manage our apprentice programs end to end, and lead the process of securing and retaining offshore staff — visa compliance, onboarding and retention.
- WHS: work with Department Managers to keep every site compliant — safety training, fire safety, first aid.

What You’ll Bring

- A true generalist, hands‑on approach. This is a floor‑and‑boardroom role, not a policy‑from‑head‑office one.
- Background in the automotive industry or FMCG, ideally across fast‑paced, multi‑site operations with a genuinely diverse workforce.
- Solid working knowledge of the Retail Award and how it actually plays out day to day.
- Real experience managing apprentices, and a proven track record securing and retaining offshore staff.
- The ability to prioritise hard when everything feels urgent, and to earn trust quickly across a wide cross‑section of staff — from apprentices and technicians through to Dealer Principals and General Sales Managers.

Also useful:

- Relevant tertiary qualifications.
- Solid HR leadership experience in a large, complex, growing organisation.
- The drive to lead, inspire and get the best out of people — and the commercial instinct to know what actually moves the needle.

Why Westpoint Autos

including fully maintained car, phone and laptop, matched to your skills and experience.
- Flexible working arrangements.
- Real investment in your development — conferences, workshops and training to back your growth.
- Group‑wide discounts for you, your family and friends across vehicles, servicing and finance.
- A seat at the leadership table in a business that’s still expanding, with the autonomy to build the HR function your way.
