Boab Metals Limited is progressing the development of the Sorby Hills Project, located 50 km northeast of Kununurra in the East Kimberley. Sorby Hills is Australia's largest undeveloped near-surface lead-silver deposit, supported by granted mining leases, EPA approval, and proximity to established infrastructure, including Wyndham Port only 150 km away. With permitting and infrastructure already in place, Sorby Hills is uniquely positioned for quick-track production. Alongside Sorby Hills, Boab is actively exploring its 100%-owned Manbarrum and Eight Mile Creek prospects, strengthening our growth pipeline across the region.
About the role
The Training Superintendent is responsible for leading all learning and development initiatives across the Sorby Hills Project, ensuring employees and contractors have the skills, knowledge, and competencies required to work safely and effectively. Reporting to site leadership, this role oversees training compliance systems, workforce competency frameworks, and statutory training requirements, ensuring alignment with WHS legislation, industry standards, and organisational objectives.
As Training Superintendent, you will play a key role in developing a safe, skilled, and competent workforce. By driving training excellence and ensuring compliance across the operation, you will contribute directly to building a strong safety culture and supporting the successful delivery of the Sorby Hills Project.
Key responsibilities
Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Sorby Hills Learning Management System (LMS)
Conduct training needs analyses, develop competency matrices, and maintain training compliance and workforce capability records
Coach, mentor, and support employees and contractors across all departments to build workforce capability and performance
Coordinate site inductions and deliver technical, mandatory, and high-risk operational training programs
Design and develop training materials, assessments, and competency-based training packages in collaboration with subject matter experts
Deliver training and conduct competency assessments across a range of mobile and fixed plant equipment
Ensure all personnel meet WHS legislative requirements, site standards, and mandatory training obligations
Conduct training and competency audits to verify compliance with regulatory requirements and Sorby Hills procedures
Monitor, analyse, and report on training compliance, workforce competency, and development outcomes to site leadership
Promote a positive learning culture that supports safety, continuous improvement, and operational excellence
Skills and Experience
Minimum five (5) years' experience in a similar Training, Learning & Development, or Workforce Competency role within the mining industry.
Demonstrated site-based experience developing and delivering training programs across processing plant operations.
Strong knowledge of Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation, Australian Standards, and relevant Codes of Practice.
Proven experience managing training compliance systems, competency frameworks, and workforce capability programs.
Excellent computer literacy, record-keeping, reporting, and presentation skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the business.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and experience using Learning Management Systems (LMS) and online training databases.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operational environment, both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring capabilities with a commitment to continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE).
Diploma of Training and Assessment or related qualification (desirable).
Formal qualification in Leadership and Management.
Current unrestricted Western Australian "C" Class Driver's Licence.
Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or equivalent (desirable).
FIFO 2:1 roster from Perth or Darwin
