About the Role
We're looking for an experienced Hardware Engineer to take an existing board design through to fab-ready production and board bring-up, delivering a reliable, manufacturable and testable hardware revision.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone with solid experience in high-speed digital design, schematic capture, PCB layout and hardware validation. You'll work with an existing design, review and refine the schematic, complete placement and routing, prepare manufacturing outputs, and support initial bring-up and debugging.
Key Responsibilities
- Review the existing board schematic and identify design issues, risks or required improvements.
- Complete component placement and PCB routing using KiCad.
- Design and route high-speed interfaces on a controlled-impedance stackup suitable for manufacture, applying appropriate differential-pair routing, length matching, return-path and signal-integrity practices.
- Review and validate the board's multi-rail power architecture.
- Configure and validate USB-C and USB Power Delivery functionality, including PD negotiation.
- Resolve DRC issues against our custom board design rules.
- Prepare fab-ready Gerbers, manufacturing outputs, and a BOM and assembly / pick-and-place files compatible with our PCB manufacturer.
- Support initial board manufacture, bring-up, testing and hardware debugging.
- Validate and troubleshoot the complete video path from DisplayPort → HDMI → MIPI CSI-2.
- Troubleshoot power, signal-integrity and interface issues during bring-up.
Board Components / Interfaces
The current board includes:
- USB-C input
- USB-C Power Delivery controller
- DisplayPort-to-HDMI converter
- HDMI-to-MIPI CSI-2 converter
- Gigabit Ethernet
- Multi-rail power tree
Required Experience
- Strong experience designing and laying out production PCBs.
- High-speed digital PCB design experience.
- Schematic capture and PCB layout experience in KiCad.
- Experience with controlled-impedance PCB stackups.
- Strong understanding of differential-pair routing, impedance control, grounding and signal integrity.
- Experience designing and debugging multi-rail power systems.
- Experience preparing fabrication, assembly and BOM outputs for PCB manufacturers.
Highly Desirable
Experience with one or more of:
- USB-C and USB Power Delivery
- DisplayPort
- HDMI
- MIPI CSI-2
- Gigabit Ethernet
- High-speed video conversion ICs
- DC-DC buck converter design and layout
- Hardware bring-up and debugging of mixed power / high-speed digital boards
- Turnkey PCB manufacturing and assembly workflows
- Regulatory certification of hardware products, including EMC/EMI pre-compliance and design-for-compliance practices
